Lord of the Rings star Orlando Bloom and Kill Bill actress Lucy Liu are teaming up for a new documentary on the humanitarian work of UNICEF. If You Have is directed by Academy Award winner Ben Proudfoot (The Queen of Basketball), and highlights the lifesaving work of UNICEF, through stories told by those who experienced their charitable efforts first-hand. Bloom and Liu are joined by Sofia Carson (Disney’s Descendants, Pretty Little Liars) as executive producers of the film, according to a report in Variety. All three actors are longtime UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors.

The 35-minute documentary will be available to view for free on April 24, when the film will be made available at the website IfYouHaveFilm.org. If You Have, which premiered at a UNICEF event last November, chronicles the group’s efforts throughout its 75-year history, with a particular focus on its immunization program. Orlando Bloom has served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2009 and has traveled around the world in support of their efforts. Just last month, he traveled to Ukraine to meet with families fleeing the Russian invasion. UNICEF has set up “Blue Dot” centers in Ukraine, to give refugees (including many children) medical, nutritional, and psychosocial support.

In a statement, Proudfoot thanked Bloom, Liu, and Carson for their support of the documentary. “I could not be more thrilled to be working with Orlando Bloom, Sofia Carson, Lucy Liu, and their teams to bring the world’s attention to the cause of children and the remarkable work of UNICEF,” Proudfoot told Variety. Founded after the end of World War II, UNICEF has worked in over 190 countries since its inception. Their immunization program has been described as one of the most successful health programs in human history. Since 2000 alone, they have provided various vaccines to over 760 million children, and it is estimated that their efforts have prevented over 13 million deaths. They are the largest single vaccine buyer in the world, and their efforts have put the world on the verge of eradicating polio once and for all. They have also worked extensively to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine.

Ben Proudfoot won the 2022 Academy Award for Best Documentary Short (The Queen of Basketball). Orlando Bloom, in addition to his role of Legolas in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films, also starred in the blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean films for Disney, as well as Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven, S.M.A.R.T. Chase, and Amazon’s Carnival Row. Lucy Liu starred in 2000’s Charlies Angels and its 2003 sequel, as well as Ally McBeal, Kung Fu Panda, Southland, and Elementary. She has been a UNICEF Ambassador since 2004. Carson became a UNICEF Ambassador in 2020, working on programs targeting advancement for young girls worldwide.

Charity work is nothing new for Orlando Bloom. In 2014, he donated the shirt off his back for an auction to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. His work with UNICEF began in 2007 when he traveled to some of the poorest regions in Nepal to see the state of the country’s schools. He has returned to the country to help oversee water and sanitation modernization projects in the region and works tirelessly with a focus on children’s rights worldwide as one of UNICEF’s most active ambassadors.
