Harrison Ford Is A Monster, According To His Co-Star

Mads Mikkelsen is having an amazing run in his career right now. He is currently doing a promotional tour for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore in which he portrays Grindelwald – the role infamously vacated by Johnny Depp. But that isn’t the only iconic franchise that the Danish actor will be starring in. He will also appear alongside Harrison Ford in the untitled fifth Indiana Jones movie which is set for release in 2023.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Mikkelsen explained how he mastered the art of playing villains, revealed the future of the Fantastic Beasts franchise, and teased the long-awaited Indiana Jones movie. The actor also discussed what it was like working with Harrison Ford, who he described as a “monster of a man.” Interestingly, there’s no nastiness in that description. His very unique choice of words refers to how active the Star Wars alum is, even during downtime on set.
Speaking to the publication, the Fantastic Beasts star recalled the first time he met Harrison Ford. “He’s an insanely powerful person. Not just as an actor, but physically,” Mikkelsen said. “I remember the first day we were shooting. It was a night shoot. Then we stopped at 5 am. He [Ford] got on his mountain bike and went biking for 50 kilometers [31 miles]. Harrison is a monster of a man, a very nice monster.”
While Mikkelsen spoke candidly about his admiration for Harrison Ford, he didn’t reveal too much about the 5th Indy adventure. However, despite not having Steven Spielberg behind the camera, the actor said the latest installment is a return to form for the popular franchise. “They’re going heavily back to the first and second film and getting that original feel, the original Indy, something dense and epic,” he explained. “It felt like a Spielberg film, though it’s obviously James making it with the same vision.”
Plot details, including the title, for the Harrison Ford starrer, remain a mystery for now. But we do know that it will serve as a sequel to 2008’s Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It is also the first installment not to be directed by Spielberg, or have a story by George Lucas. The former will take on producing duties instead. However, Indiana Jones 5 is in the capable hands of director James Mangold, with a script co-written by Mangold, Jez Butterworth, and John-Henry Butterworth.
Harrison Ford will reprise his role as the iconic archaeologist and adventurer for the movie. Starring alongside him are Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Toby Jones, and Antonio Banderas. While these roles are undisclosed, Mikkelsen is rumored to have been cast as a villain.
Away from the Harrison Ford-led franchise, Mads Mikkelsen can be seen in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. The story begins years after the events of its predecessor and follows Albus Dumbledore as he tasks Newt Scamander and his allies with a mission that will transport them into the center of Gellert Grindelwald’s army.
Meanwhile, Harrison Ford recently booked his first major television role. He is set to appear as Dr. Phil Rhodes in Shrinking – a new series for AppleTV+. According to Indie Wire, the 10-episode series is written by Jason Segel, who also executive-produces alongside Bill Lawrence and Emmy Award-winning, writer, and co-executive producer Brett Goldstein. The story follows Jimmy, a grieving therapist who starts telling his clients what he really thinks about their problems.
