A Fan-Favorite Seth Green Movie Is Suddenly Popular Again On Netflix
One of the more underrated and fan-favorite Seth Green comedies is currently blowing away the competition on Netflix streaming.

Seth Green is known to be a massive Star Wars fan, as well as, having one of the longest-running shows on Adult Swim. Robot Chicken is a stop-motion show that makes fun of practically every subject under the nerd umbrella. He is also one of the funniest comedic actors out there, and one of his best films is currently killing it on Netflix. That film is Without a Paddle. It’s currently in the top 10 out of all movies on Netflix. Seth Green stars in the film alongside Dax Shepard, Matthew Lillard, Ethan Suplee, and Burt Reynolds.
Without a Paddle is the story of three childhood friends Jerry, Dan (Seth Green), and Tom. They reunite after finding out that their friend Billy has died in a parasailing accident. Returning to their hometown, they find a map in their old treehouse hangout, that reveals the location of D.B. Cooper’s long-lost treasure. While they have all grown out of the adventure lifestyle they once craved, Billy continued working on the map and the supposed location of this treasure. The three then set off on an adventure through the wilderness to attempt to find the location of Cooper’s treasure.
For some backstory on who D.B. Cooper is, he was an unnamed man who hijacked a Boeing 727 aircraft in 1971. Cooper ransacked some $200,000 from the plane and passengers and ordered the pilot to fly him to Reno, Nevada. The plane’s initial trip was from Portland, Oregon to Seattle, Washington. While flying over the southwestern part of Washington, Cooper parachuted out of the airplane to an unknown fate. No one knows what became of the man, and the money that he made away with. A portion of the treasure washed along with the banks of the Colombia River in 1980, which reignited the search for the remains and remainder of the money. Cooper and the money were never recovered.
Without a Paddle sees the three friends attempt to locate and take home the big earnings that Cooper made away with. Without giving too much of the end of the film away, the friends go on a whirlwind adventure that sees them stumble along an illegal drug grow operation and some hippies in a tree that serves as some hilarious moments between the men accomplishing their hair-brained goals. One of the funniest moments from the film is when the friends come across a bear. They tell Dan to play dead, which he does, only to be picked up and taken in as a cub of the bear. He hilariously gets taken away in that same manner. The idea behind this is a survival tactic that states no one should run from a bear. You either make yourself seem bigger than the bear or you play dead in hopes that the bear will lose interest. However, Dan (Seth Green) seems to be looked at as small and cub-like. Without a Paddle might not have been a massive success, but it still garnered plenty of attention. On a $17 million budget, the film pulled in over $79 million worldwide. That’s not too shabby considering it was more of an underground comedy. Seth Green plays the part of the rule-following doctor complete with an inhaler perfectly. While the film holds a sad 14% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the audience rating of 68% tells a much different story. People clearly liked this comedy for what it was. The critic consensus was that the film only contained a few laughs in comparison to its 1 hour and 39-minute runtime. The laughs are certainly there, and the audience score proves that.
Seth Green, Dax Shepard, and Matthew Lillard play off one another very well in the film. Besides the bear scene, there is another in which they must all keep one another warm, which is as equally hilarious given the background song playing in such a tender moment. Without a Paddle is a raunchier version of The Goonies. Instead of young kids and teenagers, you have men going through a bit of a mid-life crisis type of existence. Even though they are still in their late 20s or early 30s. The film is currently in the top 10 on Netflix, so watch it and see for yourself why Green is so good in the film.
