Snowpiercer Adds A Fan-Favorite Marvel Star
The TNT science-fiction dystopia show Snowpiercer (that's the one with the train) announced some additions, including a beloved MCU star.

The popular TNT science fiction series Snowpiercer announced some changes to their cast, and Marvel Cinematic Universe fans (ie, 90% of the planet’s populace) are sure to be overjoyed. Snowpiercer is bringing on board actors Michael Aronov and Clark Gregg. Gregg is best known to audiences as SHIELD Agent Phil Coulson, ie, that guy who was always popping up in the first phase to ask Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) irritating questions. Gregg has played Coulson since the very first MCU movie in 2008, and even despite the death of the character in 2012’s The Avengers, managed to keep trucking as a cast member on the spin-off show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. That is some real dedication to a role. Michael Aronov is best known for a supporting role on FX’s Cold War thriller series The Americans, where he played a dissident Russian scientist. No details were given as to their characters on Snowpiercer, but given that it takes place in a snowbound future dystopia where all living humans live on a perpetually moving train, they probably aren’t super-happy characters.
TNT also announced that it has enlisted a new showrunner for the fourth season of Snowpiercer. Paul Zbyszewski will be assuming that role for the next season, which was officially renewed in June of 2021. Zbyszewski has previously been a writer and producer on the hit NBC show Lost, which you might remember from being excited and then angered by, as well the ABC time-loop series Day Break, and Hulu’s Helstrom. Given that the third season of Snowpiercer just wrapped up, it will likely be a while before audiences returned to the specific ruined future of the show (after all, there are a lot of dystopias out there right now), so we will have to wait to see what Zbyszewski, Michael Aronov, and Clark Gregg bring to the train.
Snowpiercer is based on the 2013 science fiction film of the same name, which was directed by Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho. That itself was based on the French graphic novel series Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette. It began development as a television series all the way back in 2015, and reportedly was stuck in development hell for a number of years of network and creative struggles. It finally premiered in 2020 on TNT (after a brief span in which it looked like it was going to be a TBS show), and like many shows and films, experienced production delays and shutdowns during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
The show currently stars Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs as the leads of a large ensemble cast. Snowpiercer was originally a reboot of the Bong Joon-ho film, which used the premise of a perpetually moving train in a snowy wasteland to examine class distinctions, privilege, and Ed Harris in a bathrobe. The original film was one of the most expensive Korean film production ever, and became a surprise hit in the United States. The release date of Snowpiercer the show’s fourth season has not yet been announced.
