It’s been a while since we’ve gotten to see Din Djarin and his allies in Disney+’s flagship series, The Mandalorian. “Chapter 16: The Rescue” — the season 2 finale — streamed in October 2020, bringing tears and cheers to viewers everywhere as fans were reunited with Luke Skywalker, and Din Djarin was separated from Grogu. We got to see all three return in The Book of Boba Fett, but it still feels like it’s been too long since we’ve followed Mando on his solo adventures. Well, according to Carl Weathers, it won’t be too long now — the actor who plays Greef Karga has confirmed that season 3 of The Mandalorian has wrapped filming.

It actually wasn’t Carl Weathers who made the initial announcement, but the Star Wars fan Twitter account Star Wars Stuff. However, Star Wars Stuff’s source was an Instagram post that has since been deleted, apparently displaying a badge from The Mandalorian season 3’s costume department. But in case the Instagram’s post’s absence left anyone questioning the validity of the news, Carl Weathers retweeted it to confirm it, adding that it would be a “season of WONDERFULNESS.” You can see that tweet below.

So far, season 3 of The Mandalorian is filled with nothing but question marks. With Grogu and Din Djarin reunited, and the latter no longer meaning to leave the former with the Jedi, what’s in store for the pair? The Carl Weathers character Greef Karga will apparently have some role to play in their future, but whatever that future holds is anyone’s guess.

One possibility is that we may, for the first time, get a live-action depiction of the planet Mandalore. In The Book of Boba Fett, Din Djarin reveals to the enigmatic Armorer that he has removed his helmet (twice — first to disguise himself as an Imperial soldier in “Chapter 15: The Believer” and later to share his face with Grogu in the season 2 finale). He is deemed an outcast, and is no longer considered a Mandalorian until he is cleansed in the waters below the mines of Mandalore. If Din is on his way to Mandalore, then we’d have to wonder exactly what Carl Weathers’ character would have to do with it.

It’s tough to like Greef Karga when we first meet him. In the beginning of season 1, it’s Greef who brokers the deal for Din Djarin to bring Grogu to the Imperial known only as The Client (Werner Herzog). The money he stands to make from Grogu is all the Carl Weathers character cares about at first, but by the end of the first season, the powerful infant has won him over, due in no small part to Grogu using his force abilities to save Greef’s life. By season 2, Greef has seemingly left his bounty hunting life behind and become a magistrate on Nevarro.

We’ll know more about what’s to come when The Mandalorian returns for its third season and Pedro Pascal, Carl Weathers, and more assume their Star Wars roles. There’s no official premiere date for season 3 of The Mandalorian. According to The Direct however, the scuttlebutt is that the new season will premiere later in the year than its predecessors. While season 1 and 2 began streaming in the Fall of 2019 and 2020 respectively, the rumor is season 3 of The Mandalorian will premiere in December 2022.
