The Walking Dead is a series that has been on for a long time, becoming popular enough to inspire spin-offs, video games, and much more. The series, which was based on the Robert Kirkman graphic novels that started it all, is finally coming to an end after 11 seasons. AMC took to Twitter to celebrate the occasion and offer a heartfelt goodbye to the cast, crew, and their dedicated fans.
Although it may be difficult for fans to say goodbye, at least they got a ton of episodes to leave with from the final season. The eleventh season of The Walking Dead is giving fans a whopping 24 episodes, which are being split into three different parts. Part 1 has already aired, along with the majority of Part 2. You’ll be able to catch the final episode of Part 2 on Sunday, April 3 on AMC+ or on April 10 when it airs on AMC. The final third of the season will air later this year after a brief hiatus. Check out the tweet below with the cast saying goodbye.
Even though fans of The Walking Dead won’t have the original show to watch anymore, there is plenty more content from that universe to go around. The first spin-off, Fear the Walking Dead is still making episodes and has already been renewed for an eighth season. You can also watch the full run of The Walking Dead: World Beyond which was a limited series that finished last year. This summer, there will be an anthology series coming out called Tales of the Walking Dead. The first season of Tales of the Walking Dead is set to star Terry Crews, Parker Posey, Olivia Munn, Poppy Liu, and Anthony Edwards.
Tales of the Walking Dead may be the next new series on the docket, but that’s just the beginning. Fan-favorite characters Daryl and Carol are set to get their own spin-off series, with Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride starring. The show is supposedly set to premiere next year. The characters Maggie and Negan are getting their own spin-off as well, titled Isle of the Dead. The show will star Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan in their roles.
Now you might think that all of these spin-off shows would be enough to make fans happy, but AMC still has more to give. There’s also a trilogy of movies in the works that will star Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, the sheriff who fans followed from the pilot to the ninth season of The Walking Dead. In the ninth season, Rick was rescued by a helicopter and flown to parts unknown, so it’s anyone’s guess what will happen in that trilogy.
In short, though fans of The Walking Dead may be sad to see the original series come to an end, they won’t have to give up their weekly dose of zombie-TV action anytime soon. Who knows how many seasons of the spin-offs we’ll get and if the movies are successful it wouldn’t be surprising to see more of those too.
