Bella Thorne just gave an interview to The Daily Beast, and as you might expect, she isn’t holding back on her opinions. She discussed a wide range of issues with Senior Entertainment Editor Marlow Stern, but one subject was completely off limits. And yes, it was the subject you’re probably thinking of. The Disney Channel star-turned porn director (there’s a phrase you’ve likely never heard) discussed her career, her controversial life choices, and her social advocacy for drug offenders given lengthy sentences. There were many questions about the various “scandals” she’s been involved in, but when Stern pressed for comment on her OnlyFans debacle, Bella Thorne’s publicist stopped the interview and wouldn’t allow her to discuss it. Thorne, however, was more than willing to make some controversial comments on just about every other subject.
It’s so funny that people say that I’m ‘controversial’ when you’re exactly right—I haven’t been arrested. I’m not doing bad things. Of course I am a woman, and that definitely plays a part in it. If I post in a bikini, it’s ‘She’s a slut.’ If a man posts with a different girl every other day, it’s ‘F**k yeah, bro, keep getting that p***y,’ but if I’m in a three-year relationship, and then break up, and then get into another three-year relationship, it’s ‘Wow, Bella Thorne, she’s a ho.’ I’m like, what? I’ve been in long-term relationships my whole life!

Bella Thorne is currently promoting two projects: her latest film Measure of Revenge (which also stars Oscar winner Melissa Leo) and her advocacy inspired by The Weldon Project, which assists those who have been jailed for cannabis-related offenses. She participated in an SXSW panel that discussed clemency for cannabis offenders, and asked her 25 million Instagram followers to sign a petition to President Joe Biden asking for clemency for those charged and convicted in non-violent marijuana offenses. It’s a cause also supported by celebrities like Drake and Killer Mike.
The cannabis advocacy may win her some positive press, something she has been in short supply of in recent years. As part of her move away from her squeaky-clean Disney Channel image, she directed a porn film, and even joined OnlyFans, a website used by amateur and professional porn actors to sell adult photos and videos. She claims it was for research for a film, but when she joined the platform, the Bella Thorne page became the first to make a million dollars in a single day. She eventually made over two million her first week. She was widely criticized for the move, as some claimed she was taking legitimate business away from sex workers who needed money, and because she never actually posted any nude or pornographic material.
That sort of behavior, and reports of her wild nightlife, have led many to criticize her openly. Thorne fought back in the Daily Beast interview, and made it clear she is done being slut-shamed by the media and the internet.
The 24-year-old Floridian rose to prominence in the Disney Channel series Shake It Up, which ran for three seasons from 2010 to 2013. It made household names of both Bella Thorne and another up-and-coming actress named Zendaya. Some assume that Thorne would have some harsh words for the Euphoria actress, who is on top of the world right now after winning a Best Actress Emmy for the HBO series and starring in Spider-Man: No Way Home and becoming a Best Picture Oscar nominee for Dune. There were persistent rumors that the two didn’t get along, but if so, Thorne has only kind words for Zendaya now. “I love watching her grow. Going from two kids who were just acting on a kids’ show and working all the time to where we are now is such a crazy difference….I’m just like, wow. Get it, us. Get it, Z.”
After her Disney Channel days, Bella Thorne moved on to star in more grown-up fare, including The DUFF, Blended (2014), and Midnight Sun. She even provided a voice for the animated kids film Ratchet and Clank in 2016. She recently starred in the Amazon Prime series Paradise City in 2021. There’s even an internet campaign to get her cast as Lady Deadpool in Deadpool 3. Nothing has been announced in casting, or if the character will appear in the film.
