Oscars 2022 Being Called The Worst In History

The Oscars 2022 is being called the worst award show ever, and that has a ton to do with straying away from what the show was meant to be.

The Oscars are meant to be the award show that highlights the best actors and films around the world. It is time that filmmakers and their peers are recognized on a big stage. Though there is often a love/hate relationship with this awards show, there are times in which the love aspect shines a great deal more. Seeing Alfonso Cuaron be the first person of Latin culture to win Best Directing, which was for his film Roma. Watching Parasite be the first foreign-language film to secure Best Picture Oscar. These moments have reminded everyone why the Oscars exist in the first place. However, the Oscars 2022 have been regarded as the worst in the history of the ceremony.

Where once there was a singular host handling the duties and telling the jokes, the Oscars 2022 decided to bring on three comedians that seemed to get in each other’s way. Wanda Sykes, Regina Hall, and Amy Schumer are hilarious all by themselves, but engaging all at once was far too messy. For some reason, this year’s ceremony is thought to pander to those people who don’t necessarily care for the Oscars at all. The typical nature of the ceremony is to highlight those films that have risen to a high enough degree while bringing elegance and a new frame of emotionality. While the films that won this year were certainly part of that designation, the presentation and jokes were just too…easy. There was far too much trying to entertain the crowd watching versus bringing awareness to films that we might not have seen just yet. Those filmmakers who won seemed to take a backseat to the chaos that was unfolding at every minute.

All this messiness between three hosts who made tired and obvious jokes were all overshadowed by the event that shocked the world during the Oscars 2022. Will Smith smacked comedian Chris Rock across the face after Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. Rock had made mention of Jada’s bald head, claiming he was excited to see G.I. Jane 2, which is referencing the movie that starred a bald Demi Moore. Will did not find this joke humorous, likely based on his wife suffering from Alopecia. After a few moments of laughing, he then proceeded to assault the comedian. The whole bizarre moment was captured on several news outlets and an uncensored version saw Will yelling at Rock to “keep my wife’s name out of your mouth.” He would then go on to went Best Actor for his role in King Richard. His acceptance speech about preaching love made the whole instance that much more confusing.

Based on the night that occurred, it stands to reason why the Oscars 2022 is likely to remain the worst that it has ever been. The three-way hosts didn’t work, nor did their obvious bits, and of course the slap. The Oscars might suffer a bit in the ratings going forward unless it reverts back to when the films that shocked the world took up the attention of the crowd there and at home. No one wants to focus on the antics of the hosts or the antics of the actors involved. Then again, based on that slap, more people might be betting on something crazy happening every year.
