Mike Myers has remained relatively lowkey over the last few years, not taking part in all that much when it came to the big or small screen. It appears that was mostly purposeful with the actor likely gearing up for a strong little run through 2022. He has a new Netflix project on the way, a somewhat mysterious offering that will tie back to a previous movie of his. It looks like an ambitious offering that will have Myers play a number of different characters in what could be a very silly story. Last week, he took to social media to promote the show some, offering a clue as to when we will see the trailer for the series.
Mike Myers took to Instagram to post a picture of a helicopter hovering over a city. Does it make any sense out of context? Not really. But then in the comments, Myers posted some info about when we might get our first look at The Pentaverate, saying it was coming in five days in the 5th hour. Quite the build-up from the actor and comedian who will have a big role in this show. Check out what Mike Myers posted on Instagram.
The Pentaverate is apparently loosely based on a reference made in a previous Mike Myers movie, So I Married an Axe Murderer. In that one, Myers also played multiple characters, one of them his own father Stuart Mckenzie, a hard-charging Irish man who loves a conspiracy theory when he hears it. One of those is about a group called the Pentaverate, a mini-cabal of elites who actually control all of the world. This newest series is set to expand on this silly idea with Myers now taking on multiple roles in the show. It’s a hilarious callback to a movie that came out almost 30 years ago and is something that has clearly been worming around in Myers’ head since then.
In the new show, Mike Myers will be playing at least seven different roles, one of whom is a Canadian journalist who’s on the trail of this mysterious group. Apparently, and according to the show’s logline, the Pentaverate has been operating for the better part of 700 years in the relative shadows, trying to influence world events along the way.
In addition to Mike Myers, The Pentaverate will also include a number of different comedians and all-around funny people who could really help put together a pretty hilarious series. There’s Ken Jeong, Keegan-Michael Key, and Debi Mazar among others. The show is set to run for six, 30-minute episodes in total and is likely to just be a one-off for the streamer considering it is a limited series.
For Mike Myers, this will be his first bigger production since 2018s Bohemian Rhapsody but he does have some other work lined up as well. He is set to have a role in David O. Russell’s currently untitled project which is bringing on some heavy hitters like Christian Bale, Anya Taylor-Joy, Rami Malek, Margot Robbie, Zoe Saldana, Robert DeNiro, Timothy Olyphant, and Michael Shannon among many (many others). Heck, we might even see an Austin Powers 4 in the future as well. Keep an eye out for The Pentaverate on Netflix with the trailer dropping this Wednesday.
