There are many reasons why actors and actresses are called “The Beautiful People,” but if you need an example, look no farther than Salma Hayek at the 2022 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards this past Sunday night. At the 28th annual event, Hayek was there on behalf of her latest film House of Gucci. The celebrated film was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. With Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, and Al Pacino, the film had a great chance to earn that award. If you watched the SAG Awards, you know the Deaf community got a fantastic moment of representation when CODA won that award. However, if there was another award for what other people were watching most of the evening, Hayek may have taken that in spades.
Did you see her in Santa Monica’s (California) Barker Hangar? If so, you would understand the phrase “look no farther” was literal. She gave fans all they could manage on Instagram before the event:
How can you look past that? There are more than 380,000 likes on that Instagram post, and people are still gawking. Quite naturally, the satin coral gown was a Gucci masterpiece, according to any fashionista blog or magazine reporting on the SAG Awards. However, look past the sheer gloves, that asymmetrical halter top, and all that ice on her hands and wrists, as well as those chandeliers dangling from her ears. Salma Hayek is 55 years young and still slays it on the Red Carpet!
Salma Hayek, who plays Pina Auriemma in House of Gucci, had fashion reporters asking each other Sunday night how to spell “pulchritudinous” in that bewitching number. The gown is something few actors could pull off so convincingly. Yet, 55-year-old Salma Hayek shows off a dress hinged upon her waist snug like a wet, medium shirt on a boy band member.
It’s possible she was still feeling her role in Marvel’s Eternals as Ajak because that gown looked more like a cape the way it was flowing behind her. And those platform sandals with golden heels she was rocking looked like she could have passed for a member of KISS. Even her skin was on display—and had a sponsor, her makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic and his luxury skincare brand, Noble Panacea.
Despite her jaw-dropping visage, Salma Hayek’s big moment at the 2022 SAG Awards was potentially what she did on stage as a presenter making her a meme in seconds. She was the center of attention to present the award for Best Male Actor in a TV Movie or Limited Series. After the nominees—Murray Bartlett, Oscar Issac, Ewan McGregor, Evan Peters, Michael Keaton—appeared in the sizzle reel, Hayek says, “And the actor goes to…Michael Keaton.” One problem, Keaton was going somewhere else.
Hayek was on the stage searching for the winner and shouting in the microphone, “Are you kidding me? I have stage fright. Come on Michael! Come on Michael!” It turns out Keaton stopped for a “quick trip to the men’s room.” He gave a moving acceptance speech and Salma went back to her seat, giving everyone else stage fright in that Gucci number.
