If you’re a fan of Kevin Costner’s Yellowstone, but you haven’t had time to catch up, you’ll be getting your chance soon. Season four of the hit series is coming to streaming, with the launch date set for March 28th. Now, as for where you can watch it, that’s where things get a little confusing. The fourth season of Yellowstone aired on Paramount Network, which means you would assume the Kevin Costner-led drama would be on Paramount+. However, the NBCUniversal platform Peacock actually nabbed the streaming rights before the show became more popular. So, on March 28th you’ll need to have a Peacock subscription if you want to binge the series.
Now is as good of a time to catch up as any, since Yellowstone was recently renewed for a fifth season. The season finale of the fourth season managed to pull in 9.3 million viewers when it aired live, which proves that renewing the show was definitely the right move. Yellowstone stars Kevin Costner as John Dutton, rancher and head of the Dutton family. The family owns a large cattle ranch in Montana and frequently are at odds with others surrounding their territory. The show also stars Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, Gil Birmingham, and more.
Yellowstone was co-created by John Linson and Taylor Sheridan. Sheridan in particular is known for some of the best westerns of the modern era, writing both Wind River and Hell or High Water, so Yellowstone is right in his wheelhouse. Critics and audiences have been loving the show, as you can tell from the big audience numbers and the 82% critic score and 83% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Though Kevin Costner is the big-name star on the show, it’s filled with interesting characters and storylines from the other cast members as well.
While you’re waiting for the Yellowstone Season Four premiere on streaming, you can check out the recent spinoff 1883 on Paramount+. Yes, they do have the streaming rights for that one. 1883 is a prequel for Yellowstone and shows the Duttons traveling across the United States to start their new life in Montana. The show starred real-life couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill along with Western standby actor Sam Elliott. Fans really enjoyed this spinoff series, but according to Taylor Sheridan, the prequel was a mini-series and won’t be getting a second season. But, if you’re a fan of Yellowstone, you’ll probably like the origin story for Kevin Costner’s Dutton family just as much as the main series.
One thing is certain, even if there won’t be a second season of 1883, there’s sure to be more seasons for Kevin Costner and company in Yellowstone after the fifth season renewal. Plus, there have already been two new spinoffs announced in the wake of the success of 1883. Still, if you want access to all Yellowstone content all of the time, it looks like you’ll have to cough up the money for two different streaming service subscriptions for now.
