The only thing off about this look, as pointed out by commentators, is the sword on Henry Cavill's back.

Henry Cavill has made his name with super-powered roles like Superman and the Witcher Geralt of Rivia, but could Marvel be the next spot he lands? In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he mentioned he would love to portray Captain Britain, and fans took the idea and ran with it. Check out this awesome fan art by Daniel Savage on Instagram:

True to Henry Cavill’s answer in the interview, this costume is definitely a more modern take on the character. Typically, Captain Britain’s costume has the Union Jack prominently featured. This fan opted for a more subtle take on the costume. The United Kingdom’s national flag is still featured, especially in the color scheme, but it doesn’t overpower the look. Lions, a frequently used symbol for England, are also featured in the costume.

The only thing off about this look, as pointed out by commentators, is the sword on his back. Captain Britain is a character whose power is drawn from artifacts of Arthurian legend. When the character Brian Braddock gets in a motorcycle accident, the magician Merlin offers him a choice between the Sword of Might and the Amulet of Right. Braddock chooses the amulet and becomes Captain Britain, with the powers of flight, energy beams, and force fields. Of course, the artist may know this and is simply making a visual nod to the fated decision. Either way, it’s clear that Henry Cavill looks like the perfect fit with the costume on.

If Henry Cavill does indeed take on the role of Captain Britain at Marvel in the near future, there’s a good chance we won’t be seeing too much more of his version of Superman. While Cavill has expressed interest in reprising the role, there are currently no announcements of any future projects with him at DC. The closest thing we got was a brief silhouette in the recent season finale of Peacemaker. While it was a cool visual for fans, Cavill clearly wasn’t present for the cameo.

If Henry Cavill ends up making the transition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he wouldn’t be the first actor to jump between the two comic giants. With that being said, it’s usually in the reverse direction. Zachary Levi switched from Marvel to DC, making a big jump from a supporting character in the Thor movies to the main hero in Shazam!. Idris Elba also left the Marvel camp to play Bloodsport in The Suicide Squad. Still, this might be one of the only examples of an actor playing the lead superhero for one comic-book universe and then playing the lead superhero for another. The only other example that comes to mind is Ryan Reynolds playing Green Lantern and then playing Deadpool.

As popular as Henry Cavill is, and as much as he loves comic books and video games, it probably won’t be long before he’s called up to play another fan-favorite hero. In the meantime, you can see Cavill on the small screen in the most recent season of The Witcher and you’ll see him reprise his role as Sherlock in Enola Holmes 2 in 2022.
