Charlie Cox Confirms Whether He Returns As Daredevil In The Marvel Universe

Will he or won’t he? That’s what fans have been wondering ever since Charlie Cox finally returned as Matt Murdock aka Daredevil in December’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. The actor’s appearance doesn’t last beyond a single scene and while he does briefly display his powers — easily catching a rock that smashes through the Parkers’ window – we never get to see him as his crime fighting alter-ego. Now, after some brief teases from Cox and others that didn’t firmly say anything, Cox finally says that he knows of at least one project in which he will be returning as Murdock.
Charlie Cox was speaking to Radio Times while promoting the Irish crime drama Kin when he was asked about another possible return. Cox confirmed that he knew of at least one definite MCU project in which he will reprise the role, though calling the details he provided “scarce” would be generous. Asked about a possible return, Cox said, “I know something,” he hinted. “I don’t know much, but I know there will be something else.”
Of course, “something else” could encompass any number of things. In the comics, Matt Murdock is one of the go-to guys whenever a superhero gets into some kind of legal trouble. And considering superheroes tend to be – for the most part – violent vigilantes who enforce the laws by breaking the law, superheroes tend to get into a lot of legal trouble. Charlie Cox could potentially be showing up in every other movie and/or series.
This goes double for some of the current crop of heroes who are about to start moving up in the MCU. The titular hero of the upcoming Moon Knight series is not often a friend of law enforcement. If he’s anything at all like the version originated by Wesley Snipes, Mahershala Ali’s Blade will be spending a lot of time killing vampires which – considering cops don’t usually accept “but they were vampires” as an excuse – could mean the guy will need a good lawyer. While Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel isn’t counted among Marvel’s darker heroes, considering she’s an unsanctioned teenager with super powers, she might need legal advice pretty soon.
Then, of course, there’s the upcoming She-Hulk series. In the comics Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk is a lawyer and has plenty of contact with Matt Murdock in that arena. It would arguably be more surprising if Charlie Cox doesn’t make an appearance in that series than otherwise. Not to mention the question of She-Hulk’s more well known cousin – Bruce Banner, the OG Hulk. Did Banner ever sign the Sokovia Accords upon his return to Earth? And hey, what about his Johannesburg rampage in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron? Is all forgiven? Could there not be some kind of lingering legal issue there?
Speaking of the Sokovia Accords, whatever happened to them? In WandaVision they were mentioned as still being in place, and yet early in Avengers: Endgame we see heroes like Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanov walking free. It seems like there are a lot of potential legal issues brewing in the MCU, and plenty of reasons for Charlie Cox to make appearances. As to when it actually will happen? For now your guesses are as good as ours.
