See Star Trek’s New Enterprise Bridge In Detail

A couple of weeks ago we got our very first look at the exterior of the version of the iconic Enterprise that will soon appear on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Now, we’re getting our first glimpses of the ship’s interior. From what we can see, the new design is a lot like the old, but with a new coat of paint.
Twitter user Gary Gorn posted the bridge images, which match up with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds images already released, minus the actors. Along with a wide shot of the bridge, the post includes images of two of the most often visited spots on the bridge back in Star Trek: The Original Series — the captain’s chair and the science station, where you could often find Spock (Leonard Nimoy) staring into his scope. You can see the tweet below with the accompanying bridge shots.
If you don’t feel like heading over to Twitter, we’ve got larger versions of the images, along with comparison shots with Star Trek: The Original Series. First up are the new and old captain’s chair. The basic design looks the same, though the mount lifting the Strange New Worlds version from the bridge floor looks different. It doesn’t look like the most comfortable chair in the world, but then again maybe the captain’s chair shouldn’t be too comfy.
Next up is Spock’s science station. This one will need a couple of shots from Star Trek: The Original Series to make sure we get Spock’s memorable scope in there. The updated version where the new Spock actor, Ethan Peck, will doubtless spend a lot of his time has a lot less black and appears to have more monitors. We can only hope that one of those screens will display the crazy, hypnotizey thing from the first series, otherwise can you really call it the Enterprise?
Then there’s the competing wide shots of the bridge. Again, the basic design is the same, with the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds bridge giving us a shinier, chrome look. The seats at the helmsman station look surprisingly similar, as if they were stolen from someone’s office. The turbolift has a slightly different orientation from the captain’s chair. Perhaps the most glaring difference is the floor. The version from the ’60s appears carpeted, while the newer version clearly isn’t.
While it was inevitable that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds would look sleeker and more high-tech than the original show, we’ll have to wait and see just how “low-tech” they go. The heroes of Star Trek: TOS were dealing with printouts, floppy disk-looking things that were referred to as “tapes,” and satisfyingly chunky switches and buttons. It was a far cry from the bridge of the titular vessel of Star Trek: Discovery, which looks like the inside of Tony Stark’s helmet.
We’ll find out in a few months. The first episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds streams on Paramount+ on Thursday, May 5. Season 1 will be ten episodes long, and the series promises to deliver more standalone stories — moving away from the serial format of series like Discovery and Star Trek: Picard. The series stars Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Ethan Peck as Spock, and Rebecca Romjin as Number One — all of whom first played the roles in season 2 of Discovery. They will be joined by Babs Olusanmokun as Doctor M’Benga, Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh, Celia Rose Gooding as a Nyota Uhura (originated by Nichelle Nichols) Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel, and more.
