Better Call Saul Season 6 Finally Has A Release Date

Fans of Better Call Saul are going to like this latest news with the fan-favorite show set to hit the small screen sooner than later. After facing a number of different delays over the last couple of years, the sixth and final season is set to begin airing on AMC later this spring. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the plan is for Better Call Saul Season 6 to split into two parts with the first beginning on April 8th and the second half beginning on July 11th. This season will wrap up the storyline for the main character along this particular arc, though fans of the show and its predecessor know this isn’t necessarily the end of at least one part of his story.
Better Call Saul Season 6 will have 13 episodes total with the split coming after episode seven. The reason AMC is doing this, according to THR, is to allow it to have Emmy Award eligibility for two separate years. Because the television schedule long operated with the summers being a dead zone (that’s no longer the case), Emmy-eligibility resets for the following year in June. That means that the first part of the season will qualify for the 2022 Emmy Awards and the second half could be included for 2023.
In Better Call Saul Season 6 we are going to get the culmination of this particular storyline involving Bob Odenkirk as Saul Goodman who was first introduced in the series Breaking Bad. This show, for the most part, acts a prequel to the events of that show with fans getting to see how Odenkirk’s Goodman went on to become that fast-talking, morally-compromised, lawyer-criminal after starting as Jimmy McGill. It’s been a fascinating arc for the series which has used a lot of its storyline to place set characters and circumstances for what would eventually happen in Breaking Bad.
But it’s now been two whole years since we’ve gotten a new episode of the series. Better Call Saul Season 6 was delayed a couple of times along the way. The first was due to the pandemic and Covid-19 related shutdowns and regulations. Filming for the sixth season had begun in March 2021, but the timeline was greatly protracted because of these. And then, in July of last year, while filming Better Call Saul season 6, Bob Odenkirk suffered a heart attack on set. After a day of filming, the actor said he went back to exercise and collapsed. Apparently, it took a defibrillator to restart his pulse. Ultimately, it was more than six weeks until he was able to return to complete filming.
When it’s all said and done Better Call Saul Season 6 should not only set the stage for the events of the other Vince Gilligan classic Breaking Bad but also give fans some sense of closure (we hope) on what happened to Bob Odenkirk’s character after the events of that series. Sure, he’s managing a Cinnabon, but does he find a life there as well? It’s unclear, though the story of these two series has never exactly been uplifting so there’s some chance it’s all heartbreaking in the end.
