Spider-Man: No Way Home Scene Inspired By A Real Life Moment Between Actors

Spider-Man: No Way Home has been a major hit for Marvel Studios and Sony pictures alike. Ever since it hit theatres, it has bowled over fans and critics on its way to a staggering box office return. A big part of that success is down to (spoilers) the inclusion of the Spider-Men. More specifically, the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man. And now, Tom Holland has revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, that a very real moment between the three actors inspired a poignant moment in the film.
The moment in question is when Tom Holland’s Peter Parker says his farewell to his multiversal counterparts of Maquire and Garfield’s web-slingers. In the aforementioned interview, Holland had this to say on how it all came about; “I said to [Maguire and Garfield], ‘Thank you, thank you, thank you for doing this. Thank you for being here. Thank you for elevating Spider-Man in the ways that you have. Thank you for being so gracious and allowing me to share this with you. Thank you for taking a leap of faith and coming back.’ Tobey hadn’t acted in nearly 10 years, so we all embraced each other, and we were all crying because it meant so much to us. And Jon Watts, Amy Pascal and the writers saw this moment between the three of us and were like, ‘Brilliant! Well, now we know how they’re going to say goodbye to each other.’ So essentially, we just reshot that very real moment between the three of us.”
The scene in the film plays out almost completely as Holland recalls the real-life moment. His Peter attempts to articulate his feeling towards the other two Peters, before bursting out in thanks and the three hug. It is a wonderful moment of fan service and almost feels as if the filmmakers are reaching out to fans of each and every Spider-Man directly and including them in the embrace. It just goes to show the impact of Spider-Man: No Way Home on all three of the major stars.
The three Spider-Man recently sat down with Deadline to discuss all things Spider-Man: No Way Home. In the interview, both Maguire and Garfield are quoted as saying the love and genuine interest displayed by Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige were a big part of their return to the franchise. Speaking on what it was like to return to the role of Spider-Man after nearly two decades, Maguire had this to say, “I was just grateful every day. Really, it was such a rich experience and, as the guys have touched on, the kind of sharing of something and the brotherhood of it.” This brotherhood bond between the Spider-Men is echoed by Garfield, who has this to say on his return to the franchise, “Well, I was just waiting to see if Tobey was going to do it, and if Tobey was going to do it, then I was like, ‘Well, I have no choice,’ you know? I follow Tobey to the ends of the Earth.” Holland also shares how proud he was to share the experience with his fellow Spider-Men, “I’m working with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield and we’re telling this story and I would get emotional at kind of how proud I was of the situation that we were in and what we were doing and that I really believed in what we were doing.”
It is easy to see that the connection between all three actors and Spider-Man is profound and that shared connection resulted in the bond that translated so well to the big screen. The bond formed between the Spider-Man: No Way Home stars is still ongoing. Comicbook reported that in a recent press tour for the Uncharted movie, Holland revealed that the three Spider-Men’s WhatsApp chat thrives to this day. Speaking about the group chat, Holland reveals that the trio often “talk for hours” at a time and sign off declaring their love for one another. The genuine connection shared between the Spider-Men is a big part of why scenes featuring all three of them in Spider-Man: No Way Home work so well. The scene where the three Spider-Men part ways is a testament to that real-life chemistry. This is a big factor as to why the film has become a huge success. Spider-Man: No Way Home is currently the sixth highest-grossing film of all time. It is also part of the reason why fans are clamouring for more content of both Maguire and Garfield’s Spider-Men respectively. Fans will be hoping too that Tom Holland confirms his future as the web-slinger soon as well. For now, though, fans can soon see Tom Holland take on the popular role of Nathan Drake, in Sony Pictures Uncharted. The film, derived from the popular video game franchise, hits theatres on 18 February.
