To end the first month of 2022, Netflix has released a new trailer for the upcoming film, Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The trailer opens with a quick glimpse of the iconic villain, Leatherface. The original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was released back in 1974 when Leatherface was first introduced. There have been a number of movies added into the franchise over the years, starring the frightening and ruthless killer, Leatherface. The trailer shows that the plot takes place present day, but is meant to be a direct sequel to the 1974 version. See the return of Leatherface in this gory and chilling new trailer.
The setting of the film takes place in the tiny ghost town of Harlow, Texas. A new set of characters encounter the frightening villain, Leatherface. The actors in the movie play a group of influencers who venture to the town of Harlow. Elsie Fisher and Sarah Yarkin play sisters, while Nell Hudson and Jacob Latimore play their friends. One of the really interesting facts that perhaps only die-hard fans of the original film might know is that Olwen Fouéré will also be appearing in the franchise once again. In the 1974 movie, Fouéré played the only survivor of Leatherface. In Texas Chainsaw Massacre, she returns by playing the role of Sally Hardesty, which was originally played by Marilyn Burns.
Leatherface will be played by actor, Mark Burnham. Burnham has been on the acting scene in both film and television since the 1990s. And now, Burnham has the honor of reprising such an iconic and vicious villain. Leatherface was actually partially based on real-life serial killer Ed Gein, who would make and wear masks of human skin from his victims. While there are a set of new actors and characters entering the Texas Chainsaw realm, there are some familiar faces returning, alongside Olwen Fouéré. According to Variety, John Laroquette will be appearing in the movie as the film’s narrator. Larroquette was actually the narrator in the 1974 version, too. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fede Alverez will be producing the Netflix movie. Alvarez has been a part of other classic horror films such as Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe.
According to Variety, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, one of the stars in the film, Elsie Fisher, gave some extra details about the sequel’s storyline. “It’s about a group of people who come to this town and things don’t quite go as planned. It mixes a lot of important real-life issues with horror themes, which is always something I love.”Although the film takes place in the present day, it is a direct sequel to the 1974 film. So, if someone hasn’t seen any of the other films in the franchise, there is no reason to worry. Just watching the original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre will be enough to be all caught up on the character and Leatherface. According to CBR, not many of the installments in the franchise did well financially. However, there does seem to be a lot of hype and interest since it is a direct sequel to the original film.
The ending of the trailer takes on a modern yet comedic twist in the film. As angry Leatherface surrounds a group of people inside a dark and eerie bus, all the characters pull out their phones to film the villain. One of the characters shouts out, “Try anything and you’re canceled, bro.” Knowing Leatherface, he might not take that warning too kindly. Before the trailer was released, fans of all things horror were teased with eerie posters to promote the film. The sequel is set to be released on Netflix on February 18. So, on the upside, fans don’t have to wait too long to see Leatherface once again, along with his famous weapon, the chainsaw.
