Zatanna is a popular character from the DC comics deserving of a solo TV series or movie. While news about a live-action portrayal has come in fits and starts, fans have never let go of discussing the long-awaited project. In early 2021 Variety reported that Emerald Fennell is working on a script. Around the same time, DC released a slew of logos for upcoming projects, Zatanna among them. Still, official news from the studio on a live-action production has been sparse. While the studio may not be making decisions, fans are great at it. One fanartist on Reddit has gone ahead and given fans their take on Anya Chalotra in the role of Zatanna.

In the DC Comics, Zatanna is a real wielder of magic, who works as a magician on stage. She’s been a member of Justice League Dark and been an all-around awesome character to watch develop across the page, someone truly worthy of a live-action depiction. Anya Chalotra has been a fan favorite for the character for a while now, and fans who’ve watched her on The Witcher may have an easy time envisioning her in the role. While Anya Chalotra is a popular choice, she’s definitely not the only one. Fans have also cast Emilia Clarke in the role. The actress is most well-known for her part in Game Of Thrones as Khaleesi. She is currently filming a mystery role in Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion. Rumors have put her in the part, as has many pieces of fanart, but no real news has come about the possibility. Other actresses fancast in the role alongside Anya Chalotra and Emilia Clarke include Jameela Jamil from The Good Place, who is about to be seen as the villain in Marvel’s She-Hulk, and Alexandra Daddario, who is well-known for the Percy Jackson movie and The White Lotus.
Anya Chalotra is still building her reputation with audiences, but starring alongside Henry Cavill in The Witcher is certainly making that happen at a rapid pace. She is currently set to voice the part of Lucila in Netflix’s upcoming anime series Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas. Only a little is known about the upcoming series so far. It takes place in the same world as Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead. Tig Notaro, who starred in the original live-action film alongside Dave Bautista, is in the new series. There are hopes that Netflix will be releasing the project in 2022.
As for Zatanna, of the numerous actresses fans have cast in the role, Anya Chalotra definitely has the right look for the part. It’ll be interesting to see if DC listens and chooses from the actresses fans have picked or if they have someone else in mind for their take on the project. Hopefully, DC will make some big announcements soon and Zatanna can join characters like Batgirl expanding the DC Extended Universe right now.
