Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part Two Developers Break Silence On Sequel

Modern games are quite complex to make. Video games are basically software and coding tasked at not only assembling the vast worlds found within the console but also countless testing to make sure things work smoothly and cohesively. With that being said, it’s no wonder the Final Fantasy 7 remake took nearly a decade before coming to fruition with its 2020 Playstation release. As the first launch in a planned series of games remaking the beloved 1997 original game, fans of the cyberpunk game will surely be delighted to learn that 2022 will bring some breaking news on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part Two–the next installment coming from Square Enix.

The news was confirmed by game producer Yoshinori Katase during a special live-streamed event dedicated to celebrating Final Fantasy 7’s 25th anniversary. Katase, the director of the original game is also charged with helming the Final Fantasy 7 Remake along with the upcoming Part Two launch. While Katase shared the great news, the world is still largely in the dark as far as to knowing what exactly the news will be, or even when exactly this year fans can expect the information to drop. However, both Katase and video game artist Tetsuya Nomura have long been teasing at releasing the news but never before had they given fans a timeline for it.
A prominent standout in the video game industry, Final Fantasy first graced video screens in 1987. As a science fantasy genre title, the role-playing video game franchise proved to be an instant success and has spanned 15 main entry games, subsequent titles under the same name in other video game genres, and numerous animated films, anime, manga, and novels. However, the release of Final Fantasy 7–the origin for the remake and upcoming Part Two– remains to be the most favored game in the franchise.
Released in 1997, Final Fantasy 7 put gamers in the role of Cloud Strife, a mercenary and eco-terrorist seeking to stop the diabolical Shinramegacorporation from using the planet’s life essence as an energy source. With his ensemble ragtag crew of beloved characters like Barret Wallace, Tifa Lockhart, and Yuffie Kisaragi, Cloud seeks out Sephiroth, a former member of the Shinra in order to save the world from destruction. Touted as a groundbreaking game that paved the way for modern-day gaming, Final Fantasy 7 was the first in the franchise to use full-motion video and 3D computer graphics. But as impressive as the game’s components were at the time, the 2020 Final Fantasy 7 remake was well received, as part two surely will be as well.
With very few details on the next project slated for the Final Fantasy remake, Square Enix and Final Fantasy’s game developers are hard at work bringing other FF7 spinoffs to light. Creative director Tetsuya Nomura confirmed more projects surrounding the beloved game today. The upcoming Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis is set to be a role-playing game for smart devices that will act as a condensed version of the original game.
