The picture does not specify what capacity Tom Holland was training in. With his upcoming action film Uncharted impending, fans can speculate that the actor is just trying to keep in shape. Holland will be co-starring with Mark Wahlberg in the video game property. Holland plays Nathan Drake, a young thief who gets recruited to find treasure with mentor Sully (Mark Wahlberg). The games were incredibly popular and may have even starred Nathan Fillion in an alternate reality (via CBR).
What fans recognize Tom Holland most from is his role in the Spider-Man trilogy as well as corresponding Avengers films. The 25-year-old actor has touched audiences’ hearts with his portrayal of Peter Parker. The third actor to depict the famous comic book character in recent memory, Holland is loved by fans and critics alike. This high regard for his portrayal was supported by the newest film Spider-Man: No Way Home. After months of speculation, fans were rewarded when previous Spider-Man Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield reprised their roles from earlier versions of Spider-Man. The three had distinctly different personalities and Holland stepped up his acting with emotional resonance not yet seen in the previous two films.
Tom Holland’s trilogy ended with a devastating cliffhanger. And because of comments that the actor made after the fact, fans became concerned that Holland would not be returning as Spidey any time soon (via CBR). Holland is interested in furthering his acting career and reflected that the time may come for him to step away from the franchise. With Spider-Man 4 reportedly in the works, many hope that there is some version of the films where Peter’s friends remember who he is again. It’s unlikely that Holland is training for a new Spider-Man, but at the very least, he seems open to more films. After being honored by Rotten Tomatoes, Holland came out and stated he wanted to make more Spider-Man sequels. Hopefully that will tide over audiences in the meantime.
The reaction to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home has been impressive. The film is the 8th highest grossing movie of all time (via Variety). And now it seems as though producers are clamoring for critical acclaim from the Academy. Kevin Feige has stated that the film “deserves recognition” for its achievement (via The Hollywood Reporter). Holland himself is even in talks to host the Academy Awards. It is rare for comic book movies to garner nominations at the Oscars, but if anyone can pull a country together, it is Peter Parker. Viewers wait patiently for definitive news about Holland’s future in the Spider-verse.
