Salma Hayek is never one to disappoint with her Instagram posts, and her latest throwback Thursday post is no exception. In the post, Hayek carefully curates a yellow-hued collage of outfits and looks that she’s worn over the years. Captioning her post in both English and Spanish, she mentions that she’s taking us in a yellow submarine through the past.

Salma Hayek would likely look amazing in any color, but yellow definitely seems to suit her. The slideshow includes an array of sunny yellow dresses, an intricately embroidered sweater, and even some big yellow fins for what looks like a snorkeling or diving excursion. The fourth slide also features Hayek in full makeup and costume for one of her most famous roles as Frida Kahlo in 2002’s Frida. In this biopic, she portrayed the famous Mexican painter Frida Kahlo alongside Alfred Molina as Kahlo’s husband Diego Rivera. Hayek even nabbed herself a Best Actress nomination for the role. Although she didn’t end up taking the trophy home, the film itself did win Best Makeup and Best Original Score.
Other than keeping up an entertaining and lively social media presence, Salma Hayek had a very busy year. She appeared in four different movies in 2021 alone. First was Bliss with Owen Wilson, which was a romantic thriller that was released on Amazon video. Next, she reprised her role in the sequel to 2017’s The Hitman’s Bodyguard as the wife of Samuel L. Jackson’s character in The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard.
But, perhaps Salma Hayek’s two biggest roles in 2021 came in the back half of the year with Marvel’s Eternals and House of Gucci. In Eternals, she played Ajak, who is the leader of the Eternals and a healer for the team. In the movie, the Eternals are an immortal race tasked with keeping Earth safe from another race known as Deviants. The film also co-starred Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Ma Dong-seok, and Barry Keoghan as the rest of the Eternals. It was directed by Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao.
In House of Gucci, Salma Hayek played Pina Auriemma the real-life former TV psychic who was implicated in the murder of Maurizio Gucci, who is played in this movie by Adam Driver. Pina is a close friend and confidant of Patrizia Reggiani who is played by Lady Gaga. Reggiani married into the famed Gucci family, and the twisty real-life crime story is retold in this biographical film. House of Gucci also stars Jeremy Irons, Jared Leto, and Al Pacino. Ridley Scott directed.
As of now, it doesn’t look like Salma Hayek has any upcoming roles on the docket. But if 2021 is any indication, we should see plenty more performances from her in 2022. Or maybe she’s planning on taking a break and focusing more on Instagram and taking fun vacation pics or making colorful throwback Thursday collages for her followers. Either way, Hayek is always a consummate entertainer, and we look forward to whatever she’s planning on doing next, in 2022 and beyond.
