Bob Saget rose to prominence in pop culture when he was cast as Danny Tanner in the television sitcom Full House. The show was a massive hit that ended up running for eight seasons from 1987 through 1995. The series was even given the revival treatment back in 2016 and Saget was a recurring member of the cast. His other highest-profile gig in the entertainment industry was as the original host of America’s Funniest Home Videos. He remained host for eight years, showcasing viewer-submitted clips of humorous moments from 1989 until 1997.
Outside of his television persona, Bob Saget was a deeply respected member of the stand-up comedy circuit. In contrast to the clean-cut image his popular shows portrayed, Saget was often lauded for his raunchier sense of humor. His appearance in the 2005 documentary The Aristocrats had many other comedians saying that his recital of the infamous dirty joke was the best they had ever heard.
Bob Saget was still contributing to plenty of productions over the years, even after he had become less of a big star. He was the uncredited narrator for the enormously popular sitcom How I Met Your Mother. He also appeared on a number of episodes of HBO’s Entourage playing a fictionalized version of himself. He reprised that role in the 2015 Entourage feature film. Saget was even one of the many costumed contestants on the popular reality singing competition television series The Masked Singer. He was revealed as the true identity of Squiggly Monster.
But for many folks, Bob Saget will always be remembered as Danny Tanner from Full House. The sitcom was one of the defining pieces of television history and many younger viewers who grew up with the show looked at Danny Tanner as an inspirational character. It is a testament to Saget’s ability and talent that he was able to connect to so many people over the many years he played Danny Tanner. With his return to the role in the Netflix revival Fuller House, fans got to spend a little more time with Danny, and after five seasons, they got to say goodbye to him one last time.
The world of comedy is a little less funny with the passing of Bob Saget. No doubt that he has left behind a legacy that will continue to be appreciated for years to come. Thanks for all the memories, Bob.
