While Marvel Studios had been unable to keep the lid closed when it came to Spider-Man: No Way Home, the studio is doggedly determined to ensure that the same doesn’t happen with its upcoming slate of movies in Phase IV of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). But when you are running a massive universe like Marvel, secrets tend to leak out with the latest being info about what type of role Bill Murray is playing in Ant-Man 3.
Recently, Bill Murray casually disclosed that he shot for a Marvel film with director Peyton Reed (who is directing Ant-Man 3). Even though he is “not interested in these huge comic book adaptations,” he said yes because he liked Reed and his work “very much.” So, obviously, when the actor recently appeared on The Eli Manning Show, he was once again questioned about his involvement in the film seeing that his casting hasn’t been officially announced yet.
While Bill Murray didn’t divulge many details about his possible role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, he did end up revealing one crucial detail- that his superpower in the film will be that he is a “bad guy.” Is the Oscar-nominated actor playing a villain in the film? Seeing that Jonathan Major’s Kang the Conqueror, who has been described as a “big cross-movie villain,” is already in the film, Murray’s character could be a minor villain. Perhaps he will cause trouble for Scott and the team on the ground level before the Kang-created multiversal chaos takes over. But knowing Murray and the world-class comic antiques he brings to a role, we are very much invested in whatever character he will be playing in the upcoming film!
Apart from the potential presence of Bill Murray in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the film’s official cast includes Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne/Wasp, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne, Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang, and Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror. The film was recently delayed from its February 2023 release date to July 28, 2023.
In case, Bill Murray is indeed in Ant-Man 3, this would be the second film where the actor will be sharing the screen space with Paul Rudd. Recently, Murray reprised his role as Peter Venkman (from the original Ghostbusters films) in Jason Reitman directed Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which also starred Paul Rudd, Mckenna Grace, Bokeem Woodbine, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Logan Kim, and Celeste O’Connor. He was joined by Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver who also reprised their roles from Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989).
Bill Murray’s upcoming projects include Asteroid City, a romantic comedy-drama film written, directed, and co-produced by Wes Anderson. The film has a massive cast of A-listers like Murray, Margot Robbie, Tilda Swinton, Adrian Brody, Scarlett Johansson, Jeff Goldblum, etc. Murray will also be starring in the upcoming war drama film, The Greatest Beer Run Ever, which will be directed by Peter Farrelly and also feature Zac Efron and Russell Crowe.
