See Dwayne Johnson React To Record-Breaking News From Netflix
This article is more than 2 years old
Dwayne Johnson just got some great news and he wants to share it with the world. On Wednesday, The Rock posted a video about a phone call he had just received from Netflix. The actor and wrestler has achieved something incredible, and possibly unique. Leading one movie on Netflix’s Top 10 films in the world would be impressive. Leading two movies on the list would be amazing. As of this writing — Wednesday, January 5, 2022 — Johnson leads three films on the list.
The Rock posted the video to his official Instagram, noting he was so thrilled he’d interrupted his workout to deliver the message (and you can see his gym in the background). Johnson said, “I may have achieved something very rare, and possibly something that no one else has achieved before in Hollywood. This is crazy.” Making sure to humbly thank all of his fans for making it happen, Dwayne Johnson delivered the news that three of his movies were on Netflix’s Top 10 film list. You can watch The Rock deliver the news below.
A quick trip to Netflix Top 10 confirms Dwayne Johnson’s news. The 2012 family flick Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is in the #9 spot just in front of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man. Not too far ahead at #7 is 2019’s Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. At #5 is the 2021 action comedy Johnson made with Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds, Red Notice.
Now, remember, The Rock is talking about the global top 10 list. If you check out your own Netflix account’s Top 10 and you live in the United States, rather than three Dwayne Johnson movies, you’ll only find two. Hobbs & Shaw isn’t currently in the Netflix Top 10 for the U.S., possibly because it isn’t currently being offered on Netflix in the U.S. So, instead of three movies on the Top 10 U.S. list, The Rock only has two — what a slacker.
Along with revealing his three Top 10 flicks, Dwayne Johnson also mentioned two of them had already reached impressive milestones of their own. As reported by CNN in December, the star-studded Red Notice became the most watched Netflix film of all time. And considering the public back and forth between Johnson and Vin Diesel, you have to imagine The Rock takes special pleasure in mentioning that Hobbs & Shaw has the highest Rotten Tomatoes audience score of the entire Fast & Furious franchise.
Interestingly, one of the three films helping Dwayne Johnson dominate Netflix’s global Top 10 movie list was recently mentioned on another list of three Johnson films. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island was listed as one of three films The Rock won’t be appearing in a sequel for. Johnson’s business partner for his company Seven Bucks Productions said that the actor wouldn’t be showing up for follow-ups to Journey 2, 2015’s San Andreas, or 2018’s Rampage. Garcia said there were other franchises that took priority, and noted The Rock’s packed schedule.
As for projects Dwayne Johnson already has shown up for, fans of both Johnson and adaptations of DC Comics should have a very good 2022. Johnson has provided the voice of Superman’s caped pooch Krypto for the animated film DC’s League of Super Pets which releases on May 20. A little over two months later, on July 29, Johnson stars in the role fans have waited years to see him in — Black Adam. Both films will first be released in theaters and will stream on HBO Max 45 days later.
