Cobra Kai season 4 has given fans a few big surprises and an epic season finale. There was a lot of fun stuff along the way, with a few cameo appearances sprinkled throughout the show. But the biggest surprise was the unexpected cameo from country music superstar Carrie Underwood. The singer appears as herself during the 51st annual All-Valley Karate Championship.
To the delight of Cobra Kai fans everywhere, Carrie Underwood performs a cover of Survivor’s “The Moment of Truth,” which was on the original Karate Kid soundtrack. Creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg have yet to reveal how Carrie Underwood’s appearance came about. But we do know that it started on social media.
In August 2020, the singer told her Twitter followers that she had just started watching the series. But she made a tiny spelling mistake in her post.
Her adorable posts caught the attention of Cobra Kai’s official account which replied with a cheeky comment, “We believe you, Karrie.” Stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka also responded to the singer. They thanked her for the support and welcomed her to the dojo. “Thanks for the shout! We love doing the show. Enjoy,” Ralph Macchio wrote. “Amazing! Thank you Carrie Underwood. Welcome to the dojo,” Zabka added.
This social media exchange in 2020 apparently led to a big reveal during Cobra Kai season 4. After a few rounds of skills competitions, the event’s organizer takes the microphone and announces the tournament’s special guest. “Ladies and gentlemen, the male and female division qualifiers are about to begin. And with them, we enter a new era. That’s why we need a very special guest to kick things off. Let’s give a big All Valley welcome to multi-Grammy Award-winning international superstar Carrie Underwood!” Flexing her acting skills in Cobra Kai season 4, Carrie Underwood addresses the All-Valley crowd. “I am so honored to be here. I didn’t see a lot of karate growing up in Oklahoma, but, you guys know I love to compete, just like these wonderful young men and young women. One thing I have learned is that everyone gets their shot, their chance in the spotlight. Everyone gets their moment. This one’s yours.”
Cobra Kai has been hugely successful ever since its release in 2018. Based on the iconic Karate Kid film franchise, the show brings the rivalry between Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) to new a generation of fans. The Karate Kid debuted in 1984, with Ralph Macchio making his first appearance as Daniel. He soon finds out that being the new kid in town is not easy, as he is constantly tormented by teens from a local karate group.
As luck would have it his new neighbor, Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita) is a karate master who takes Daniel under his wing and encourages him to compete at the All-Valley Karate Championship. Daniel defeats his bully with his famous crane kick, cementing the movie’s place in history as one of the greatest underdog success stories ever told. Cobra Kai is based on that infamous grudge, with season one reigniting the feud between Daniel and Johnny.
Over the years, Daniel continues to honor his late mentor. With children and students of his own, he has done his best to live up to and pass on the wisdom imparted to him. After a successful two-season run on YouTube, Netflix acquired Cobra Kai in June 2020 and released the third season in early 2021. Cobra Kai season 4 was released in its entirety on December 31, 2021. The series has been renewed for a fifth season.
