Miley Cyrus is a consummate performer, but even the best musical acts have slip-ups sometimes. In this case, it was a slight wardrobe malfunction during a live New Year’s Eve performance. Being the pro that she is, she was able to handle the malfunction with aplomb.
Check out the clip of the Miley Cyrus performance in the video below:
As you can see in the performance, her first outfit wasn’t quite holding up. The glittery silver top was able to stay on for a few seconds before falling apart. Miley Cyrus was able to cover up quickly and make an impressively subtle wardrobe change into a long red jacket from an earlier song of the night. She then finished her performance of “Party in the U.S.A.,” while even having time to slip in a joke about the malfunction. She made a clever lyric change to the 2009 pop hit, singing, “Everybody’s definitely looking at me now.” She also quipped, “I’m still in the most clothes that I’ve ever worn on stage.”
The performance was part of Miley Cyrus’s New Year’s special in Miami titled Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party and was co-hosted by Pete Davidson. She partnered with Lindsay Shookus and creator of Saturday Night Live, Lorne Michaels, to produce the special and air it on NBC and the Peacock streaming app. Unfortunately, the wardrobe malfunction was far from the only production issue the team faced. The COVID-19 pandemic continues to cause issues for these kinds of events, with parts of the show having to be canceled and transportation issues factoring into the live event’s troubles. Still, the team was able to put on a great show and ring in 2022 in a celebratory fashion.
Miley Cyrus herself said it best, giving a short speech at the end of the special about the importance of resilience. In her speech, she mentioned how they had to make the best out of the worst circumstances, how to see the unexpected as an opportunity, and how we should take the resilience we’ve learned into the New Year. It was a great little speech and nice words of encouragement to tie a bow on a year that might not have been the best for everyone.
And although the wardrobe malfunction might have been a funny little note of the night, Miley Cyrus killed it with the rest of her performances and outfits. She sang “The Climb” with Brandi Carlile in a stunning black dress, nailed her performance of her godmother’s song “Jolene” in a shiny jumpsuit, and performed a new song titled “You” in a red boa robe. She also had some funny skits with co-host Pete Davidson, who, not to be outshone, purposefully had a wardrobe malfunction of his own.
Overall, it was a fun night of great performances and cool fashion moments. If you want to start 2022 off on a high note, make sure to check out some of the performances for yourself. And hopefully, you didn’t have any wardrobe malfunctions of your own at your New Year’s party. If you did, hopefully, you handled them as well as Miley Cyrus did.
