How did you start 2022? Partying, making plenty of resolutions, and self-promises, right? Well, Halle Berry decided to kick-start the new year by pulling a neat prank on her followers. The actress and director made a post that seemingly implied that she has gotten married to her current beau, Grammy-winning musician Van Hunt. While some managed to see through the ruse, many were not that fortunate, including the Red Notice star, Dwayne Johnson.
It all happened on Instagram, where Halle Berry posted a photo of herself with Van. In the picture, the duo appears to be in a church and are seen standing in front of an A-shaped window while holding hands and sharing a kiss. The wide expansive ocean, a beautiful beach, and towering mountains offer a mesmerizing backdrop to the couple’s PDA moment. Apart from the way the couple is posing, what gives the picture the perfect wedding vibe is the church-like appearance the small room has with rows of benches on either side of the room arranged like pews. On top of that is the caption, which reads “well…IT’S OFFICIAL!” The post from Halle Berry can be seen below:
While the photo and the caption do seem to convey that Halle Berry has gotten married to her boyfriend, it is the second picture in the post that carries the unexpected punchline. The next picture in the post, which can be seen by clicking the arrow on the right, is a closeup of the couple with the words “it’s 2022” splashed across their grinning faces. The second photo is meant to clarify that it is officially 2022, not that the couple are officially wed. Like many of her fans and fellow celebrities, Dwayne Johnson didn’t swipe to the next picture before conveying his warm wishes to the “newlywed” couple. He fell for Berry’s prank as he commented “congrats you two!!! Beautiful!!” along with multiple clapping emojis.
Along with Dwayne Johnson, celebrities like Octavia Spencer, Ava DuVernay, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kim Fields, Tia and Tamera Mowry, Meagan Good, Ruth E. Carter, etc also fell for Halle Berry’s joke and proceeded to congratulate the Perfect Stranger actress. As the happy couple is currently enjoying their vacation, Berry is yet to address the (still) incoming flood of wishes from fans and celebrities on finally getting “married.”
Before dating Van Hunt, Halle Berry was married three times. Once to former baseball player David Justice from 1993 to 1997, then to singer-songwriter Eric Benét from 2001 to 2005, and to French actor Olivier Martinez from 2013 to 2016. She also dated model Gabriel Aubry, with whom she shares daughter Nahla. She also has a son, named Maceo, with Martinez.
Halle Berry first teased her relationship with Van Hunt in August 2020 before confirming that she is indeed dating him in September. The couple recently made their red carpet debut in April during the 2021 Academy Awards. An insider, close to the couple, also confirmed to Us Weekly at the time that Hunt is “a wonderful, caring man” to the actress. And even though “they’ve only been dating a few months,” Berry already believes that he is “the one for her” and she can see herself settling down with him.
When the Oscar-winning actress is not busy making fans and fellow celebs fall for her clever jokes, Halle Berry is engrossed in her two big upcoming projects. First is the science-fiction film, Moonfall, directed and written by Roland Emmerich. Berry will be seen as Jocinda “Jo” Fowler, an astronaut who teams up with another astronaut and a conspiracy theorist when they discover that an unknown force has knocked the moon off its orbit, thus putting it onto a collision course with Earth. Made with a budget of over $140 million, the film is one of the most expensive independent films to date.
Halle Berry’s next project is the Netflix film, The Mothership, which she is set to star in as well as executive produce. Penned and directed by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Matthew Charman, the sci-fi drama will feature Berry as Sara Morse who discovers a suspicious extraterrestrial object underneath her home a year after her husband mysteriously vanished. Together with her kids, she will embark on a deadly mission to uncover the truth.
