When considering the best Marvel movie, the great news for the studio is that they have a plethora of films to pick from. When you’ve been at this thing for almost 14 years and 27 movies, there are a lot to pick from. And the studio has done nothing short of a masterful job in how they’ve handed interweaving stories, giving the franchise real stakes and continually pushing the boundaries of what it means to have a true universe. Well, what many consider to be the best Marvel movie, Thor: Ragnarok, is currently trending on Twitter, because, well, fans love this thing. When it came up on the social media platform about the best MCU flicks, there were more than a few fans who jumped into voicing their appreciation for just about everything that happened in this flick.

Again, this latest trend stems from fans wanting Thor: Ragnarok to get some respect within the top lists of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. And there’s clearly a case for it, though it stems more from what you see the franchise’s chief goals. If you think that the overall story, the throughlines that run deep in the MCU are critical, then this movie isn’t going to land the same way. But if comedy is what you are looking for, as well as a full character reset, well then this third Thor movie is about as good as it gets. Check out what some folks had to say about Thor: Ragnarok.

Again, Thor: Ragnarok as the best Marvel movie is, of course, a matter of taste around what you want from the franchise. In terms of humor, it’s clearly one of the funniest of the bunch, essentially resetting Chris Hemsworth’s titular character from a dark and brooding (and pretty boring) dude into a struggling God who doesn’t exactly have a sturdy footing in the world he finds himself within Sakaar. And while this movie only loosely deals with the rest of the franchise, there are enough moving pieces to make sure it’s still interconnected.

But it’s the laughs that make this whole thing play so well with director Taika Waititi along with writers Eric Pearson, Craig Kyle, Christoper Yost going for the ridiculous and sublime rather than anything that resembled previous iterations of the character. Whether it was Loki getting mixed up the GrandMaster, Thor nearly powerless at the hands of Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, Hulk’s emergence as a full-on brute who is also sensitive to the Banner or side, or just the dry hilarity of Korg, this movie worked so damn well.

And Thor: Ragnarok was clearly a win for Marvel on both the box office and critical front. It earned more than $854 million in ticket sales worldwide on its $180 million budget. That’s a win by any metric, even a studio this size. And critics loved it as well, scoring 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the best-received films of the entire franchise. And for those champing at the bit for more of this character, don’t worry. It won’t be long until we get Thor: Love and Thunder which comes out next year.
