While Sandra Bullock’s recently released The Unforgivable isn’t earning any brownie points in terms of critics’ reviews, it has surely reinstated the actress as the most bankable star for Netflix. After a limited theatrical release, the film premiered on Netflix on December 10, 2021. In less than 20 days since its debut, the film has officially joined the streamer’s coveted list of Top 10 Most Popular films list. As reported by Variety, Netflix has shared that the Sandra Bullock starrer has been viewed 186,900,000 hours to date and has thus been added to the list of the most popular films on the streamer. This makes Bullock the only actress to have two entries on this list.
Sandra Bullock first made Netflix history her 2018 released post-apocalyptic horror thriller, Birdbox. It has been viewed over 280,020,000 hours to date. And given the popularity the actress enjoys amongst Netflix subscribers, the viewing numbers for The Unforgivable are only going to spike further.
Directed by Nora Fingscheidt and written by Peter Craig, The Unforgivable starred Sandra Bullock alongside Viola Davis, Jon Bernthal, Aisling Franciosi, and Vincent D’Onofrio. Bullock starred as Ruth Slater, a woman released from prison after 20 years of incarceration for killing a sheriff who came to evict her and her five-year-old sister, Katie, from their childhood home after the death of their father. After being released, Ruth plans on reuniting with her estranged sister but gets entangled in a web of revenge, the hard road to rehabilitation, and rejoining the very society that still shuns her.
Apart from The Lost City actress, Ryan Reynolds is the only actor whose two films are in the Top 10 list on Netflix. They include both Red Notice and 6 Underground. Sandra Bullock previously also held the title of leading the most-watched film i.e., Birdbox on Netflix. This record was broken by the 2021 released action comedy Red Notice, starring Reynolds, Gal Gadot, and Dwayne Johnson. It seems Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock are big hits with Netflix audiences.
Sandra Bullock’s next project will be the upcoming adventure-romantic comedy, The Lost City, which will see the actress play the role of a reclusive romance author who embarks on a book tour. Her plans are then botched by a kidnapping attempt and she ends up in an unwanted (and highly dangerous) jungle adventure. It was initially reported that the actress will be starring as Loretta Sage opposite her long-time friend Ryan Reynolds in the film but later Channing Tatum replaced the actor. Directed by Aaron and Adam Nee, the film also stars Daniel Radcliffe, Oscar Nunez, Brad Pitt, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Patti Harrison, Raymond Lee, and Bowen Yang.
After The Lost City’s release in March 2022, Sandra Bullock will be seen in David Leitch’s Bullet Train based on the novel Maria Beetle by Kōtarō Isaka. The ensemble cast for the film also includes Brad Pitt, Brian Tyree Henry, Joey King, Andrew Koji, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Zazie Beetz, Logan Lerman, Hiroyuki Sanada, Masi Oka, Michael Shannon, Karen Fukuhara, and Bad Bunny.
