Recently, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet were able to reunite after not seeing each other in three years. Needless to say, Kate Winslet was emotional saying she “couldn’t stop crying.”
Just like many people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, seeing friends and loved ones has been no easy task. Leo and Kate Winslet have been long-time friends since they first starred together in James Cameron’s Titanic. They were both in their early 20s at the time and were quickly becoming huge stars in Hollywood. It’s no wonder that they became friends for life after working so closely on such a big, timeless blockbuster. They played love interests again in the 2008 film Revolutionary Road, which likely only strengthened their friendship. Since then, they haven’t starred in any films together, but they’ve maintained contact and have met up various times throughout the years to catch up.
With the pandemic hitting, they weren’t able to see each other in person for three years. Not seeing one of your best friends for so long would take a toll on anyone, and it would definitely be highly emotional getting to see them in person. It’s not surprising that Kate Winslet had such a strong reaction when they finally got together again.
Since they first met on Titanic, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet have only become bigger stars. They’ve both won an Academy Award along with being nominated numerous times. Kate Winslet won Best Actress for her role in The Reader and Leo won Best Actor for his role in The Revenant. Of course, they’ve also starred in a myriad of other roles and have produced plenty of projects as well.
For recent projects, both actors have plenty for fans to enjoy. For Kate Winslet, you can check her out in the HBO mini-series Mare of Easttown. In Mare of Easttown, she plays Detective Mare Sheeran who investigates a murder in a small town in Pennsylvania. Mare of Easttown is receiving fantastic reviews from critics and audiences alike with 95% from critics and 93% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Make sure to check this one out as soon as possible. She’ll also be reuniting with her Titanic director James Cameron for Avatar 2 in 2022. She’ll be playing a Na’vi character named Ronal.
Leo also just starred in the brand new Netflix film Don’t Look Up. He plays an astronomy professor who, along with his grad student Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence) discovers a planet-killing comet is going to hit Earth. They team up to try to convince people to care about the very real problem. This one isn’t faring quite as well critically as Kate Winslet’s series, with a 55% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics. Audiences like it though, with a respectable 77%.
Although we might not see Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet star in any movies together soon, it’s definitely a heart-warming feeling to see two long-time friends united during these uncertain times. Here’s to hoping they don’t have to wait so long before seeing each other again.
