Spider-Man: No Way Home debuted last Thursday, and grossed an astonishing $50 million domestically on its opening night, and is currently en route to a $260 million opening weekend, which is the second-best opening weekend of all time, besides being the record opening weekend of the pandemic era. Not only that, but the film has landed a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes — quite possibly making it an Oscar contender. However, it would seem that Tom Holland, the film’s lead, might actually host the upcoming Academy Awards — the most prestigious award with the American and international film industry.

The actor discussed the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, stating that he doesn’t believe that anything in his career will ever match this and considers it a shame that it happened so early in his career. Alas, everyone’s favorite friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, might have another career milestone waiting for him around the corner. According to The Hollywood Reporter’s report, some industry insiders have encouraged the Academy to get Tom Holland and perhaps Zendaya or his Spider-Man predecessors, Maguire and Garfield, to host the Oscars in 2022.

When asked if he would be open to the idea, Tom Holland responded that he’s currently too busy with the upcoming Uncharted press tour and beginning of production of The Crowded Room, which, per his own accord, is the hardest role he’s ever taken on. However, our next Nathan Drake (Holland’s character in the upcoming Uncharted) entertained the idea by stating that he would be open to the opportunity in the future, reiterating that he’s interested but lacks time.

Two minutes into the interview, and actor Tom Holland quickly backtracked what he said, stating that he would most definitely host the Oscars if he was ever given the opportunity. When asked about sharing the experience with his significant other, his Spider-Man co-star Zendaya, Tom said that he could run it buy her, but does not guarantee a positive response from the young actress. Hosting an Oscars at 25 can be an overwhelming experience, and judging by their public image, the young actress wouldn’t skip on the opportunity to put Tom in a challenging situation but also provide all the support he might need.

Tom Holland is set to appear in the upcoming action film Uncharted, scheduled for a February 2022 release date, after spending more than a decade in developmental limbo. So long, in fact, that the original actor set to portray Nathan Drake, Mark Wahlberg, now portrays Nathan’s treasure-hunting partner and a mentor, Victor Sullivan. Regardless, the fandom of the Uncharted gaming series [the film is based upon] has mixed feelings about Tom Holland as Nathan Drake, despite Holland’s acting prowess, which easily matches the grandness of Hollywood’s elites.

With everything said, it would be interesting to see Tom Holland host the Oscars in 2022, especially now that the film he’s starring in, Spider-Man: No Way Home, has become the contender for Best Picture. At the time of this writing, Spider-Man: No Way Home has earned a gross total of $895 million.
