Robert Pattinson Reveals How Many The Batman Sequels He’s Planned For
Robert pattinson says how long he plans on being the Dark Knight!
Robert Pattinson hasn’t been the lead in a franchise since the Twilight series. Lately, he’s opted to go the indie route (barring the occasional Christopher Nolan blockbuster). But next year he’ll be portraying one of the most iconic superheroes in the genre in The Batman. It almost seems like a guarantee that he would be in at least a couple of films as the character. It’s pretty rare for a Batman actor to not get a sequel or two.
Now the actor himself has spoken about the possibility. In an interview with Empire, he mentioned how we would love to do another two Batman films to dive deep into the psychology of the Caped Crusader. A Batman trilogy would certainly give Robert Pattinson some room to iterate on the famous character and make it his own. The last time we saw Batman in a proper trilogy was when Christian Bale played him in the Nolan films, so those are certainly big shoes to fill.
Of course, Robert Pattinson seems more than up to the task. The first trailer for Matt Reeves’ The Batman showed an especially broody and rough-around-the-edges Bruce Wayne. In fact, it’s just his second year of fighting crime as Batman, so he’s probably still got a lot of learning to do. The film will see Batman going up against Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin (a nearly unrecognizable Colin Farrell) and the mysterious Edward Nigma aka The Riddler (Paul Dano). Luckily, he won’t be going up against these villains alone. Other characters that will likely be on Batman’s side include Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright), and Selina Kyle aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz).
Although Christian Bale was featured in the most recent Batman trilogy, Ben Affleck was actually the last one to portray the character in films like Justice League and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The Batman was originally going to be his movie, which he would direct, write, produce, and star in. After a few years, Ben Affleck dropped out of the project and Reeves took over, writing a younger Batman story based on Batman comics like Year One and The Long Halloween. Even though Robert Pattinson is the one taking over the solo Batman films, we’ll still get to see Affleck’s iteration of the character again in the upcoming Flash movie. No word yet if we’ll get to see these Batman characters together on screen or if Pattinson will interact with any other characters in the DC movie universe, but it would definitely be cool this does come to pass.
It’s exciting that we’ll finally get to see The Batman come to fruition. The film has faced a myriad of filming issues due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After some short initial delays, The Batman‘s dialect coach Andrew Jack sadly passed away from COVID-19 complications. Filming was paused indefinitely after the tragedy. When filming did eventually restart, Robert Pattinson himself contracted the virus, leading to production being shut down again. After these various pushbacks and delays, they were finally able to wrap filming in March 2021. Hopefully, if Pattinson does get those sequels he’s wanting, the filming process will go much smoother next time. The Batman opens in theaters on March 4, 2022.
