It has been two long years since a Quentin Tarantino film has graced theater screens. Due to consumers staying at home, it is understandable why there has been no concrete news about a new film from the famed director. But that doesn’t mean that Tarantino hasn’t been working on something new. While fans may be disappointed that it isn’t the coveted Kill Bill Vol. 3 that’s been hinted at, the director still has something to offer with his new project. According to The Verge, Tarantino’s next project is not a movie at all, but a podcast.
Quentin Tarantino’s podcast does not have a name yet, but one thing is for sure. The concept is made for any die-hard Tarantino fan. The director will be going through his extensive media collection including CD’s and DVD’s and explaining in depth the meaning behind them. This podcast may not be for everyone. But for fans wanting an in depth look at the homage-master, there is no better teacher than the man himself.
A podcast of this nature just makes sense. Quentin Tarantino is an encyclopedia of knowledge and this would be a look behind the curtain. The director is famous for in-jokes and references to previous works in his films. Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood was created out of respect for the era that Tarantino grew up in. So much so that to truly appreciate it, there are certain films that fans are encouraged to watch (via Variety).
Because of the in-knowledge required, Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood has been known to be quite divisive, though most critics landed on the positive side of the nostalgic tale (per Variety). Nostalgia is a word that often describes Tarantino’s love of the era. Which is what makes this podcast perfect for him. The film celebrated the 60s and shows appreciation for the tragic death of Sharon Tate. Tarantino has said that he didn’t want her to be defined by the Manson murders (The Hollywood Reporter).
This should be a nice reprieve from the current controversy the director is embroiled in. While his films have been on hiatus, the courts have been busy. One of the most famous images from Quentin Tarantino’s films has been the source of contention. Photographer Firooz Zahedi has sued Miramax for not receiving royalties for his photograph. The image in question is the iconic visual of Uma Thurman from Pulp Fiction. This image defines the film, even though the cast is full of stars. As the image is so iconic, it makes sense that Zahedi would demand compensation, But as of this month, the photographer has officially settled.
While this is good news for the director, many are hoping for news on his next film. Quentin Tarantino has always been upfront that his career as an auteur has an expiration date. Tarantino had a set number in mind for his films and that number appears to be ten. When asked about the status of Kill Bill Vol. 3, the director has been non committal at best. But with the number for his final film looming quickly, fans should expect a straight answer sooner rather than later. And in the meantime, we will have a specific podcast straight from Tarantino himself.
