The news of Ubisoft’s new Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla DLC has leaked a couple of days before the official announcement via listings found on Chinese digital stores. These were subsequently translated using Google and shared on Reddit and other social media platforms. The newly leaked screenshots and extra content have revealed further expansions of Ubisoft’s already massive-open world game.
According to Kotaku, Reddit user u/hashiqigou shared the text and additional information about the game after stumbling upon it on an undisclosed Chinese store — and it corroborated previous rumors about the game. The new DLC is titled Dawn of Ragnarok, and according to Ubisoft, stands as the most ambitious expansion pack in the franchise’s already vast history. Apparently, the DLC will focus even further on Norse mythology, with the narrative taking place in the magnificent Nine Realm of the Nordic mythos.
It’s worth noting that Ubisoft decided to now officially reveal the upcoming Assassin’s Creed DLC at a scheduled event, revealing more of its narrative and setting. Check out a photo below. Not only will the players be able to visit Nine Realms, most of the story actually takes place in the dwarven realm of Wat Alheim. How exactly dwarves play into the entire Assassin’s Creed lore remains to be seen, but nothing should come as a surprise following Assassin’s Creed Origins and Odyssey — which introduced us to the first hashashin and humanity’s Atlantean ancestry.
And that’s not all. The game’s protagonist, Eivor, must personally experience Odin’s fate and his destiny as the god of wisdom, along with the war of the North and the end of the world. Luckily, the full-Odin-experience comes with a brand-new supernatural power of the thunderbolt. According to the industry insider Tom Henderson, the upcoming Assassin’s Creed DLC is aiming to provide another 40 hours of additional content, all centered around the Nordic apocalypse and the very violent end of the world in Norse mythology. And while all the information adds up to Ubisoft’s latest announcement, it’s worth pointing out that the developer and publisher haven’t said anything about the content’s length.
Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla – Dawn of Ragnarok will be Valhalla’s third expansion. The first expansion, titled Wrath of the Druids, took Eivor to Ireland against the Children of Damu. This DLC was superseded by The Siege of Paris expansion pack, which takes the narrative to the time of immense political tensions between England and France. Needless to say, both expansions were greeted with open arms by the Assassin’s Creed fandom and critics, though some lamented the lack of innovation within the gaming series.
As shown in the game’s cinematic trailer, players can expect the new Assassin’s Creed DLC on March 10, 2022, and the game is currently available for pre-order. It would seem that the following 2022 brings us more than one Ragnarok-centered game — the next installment in the God of War’s Norse saga, the God of War: Ragnarok, is also scheduled for a 2022 release, though Santa Monica Studio still hasn’t revealed a more precise release window.
