Kristen Bell’s exciting new Netflix vehicle The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window premiered a trailer this morning and it seems like Bell’s character is going to have a hard time with reality. The upcoming limited series, which has quite the long title, also stars Michael Ealy, Shelley Hennig, Christina Anthony, Cameron Britton, Tom Riley, and Benjamin Levy Aguilar.
The trailer is scored by an appropriately creepy version of the “Rain Rain, Go Away” children’s nursery rhyme. Kristen Bell plays Anna, who seems to be having a hard time with life until an attractive neighbor, played by Tom Riley, and his daughter move in across the street. In the trailer, we see Bell’s character apparently witness a murder, though what’s real and what isn’t seems like it will be a major part of the story. Since Bell’s character is mixing her excessive wine drinking with her pills, it remains to be seen if her hallucinations are what they appear to be. Finding out if Bell is a reliable narrator or not will likely be a big draw for this series, and is bound to lead to some water-cooler (or Zoom-cooler) conversations. Check the trailer out for yourself below:
As you can see, there’s plenty of mystery to be had. This is a limited series, so it’s likely that the story will be wrapped up in a satisfactory manner with its span of episodes. The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window will mark Kristen Bell’s return as a live-action TV series lead since her turn as Eleanor Shellstrop in the funny-yet-touching The Good Place, which aired its final episode in 2020. Unlike The Good Place, this definitely seems like more of a strictly dramatic turn for Bell.
If you’re an impatient fan of Kristen Bell’s work, there’s plenty to revisit while you’re waiting for The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window to drop. You can check out Queenpins, her most recent movie with Kirby-Howell Baptiste. The aforementioned The Good Place is also fully streaming on Netflix if you want a fantasy comedy from the mind of The Office creator Michael Schur. In addition to The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window, she also has two upcoming projects The People We Hate at the Wedding and Molly and the Moon in post-production.
Whether you’re familiar with Kristen Bell’s work or not, The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window looks to have plenty of twists and turns while scratching that murder-mystery itch. The series is set to premiere on Netflix on January 28, 2022. The Netflix limited series is brought to us by Gloria Sanchez Productions, with Rachel Ramras, Hugh Davidson, and Larry Dorf credited as the creators and co-showrunners. Kristen Bell herself along with Will Ferrell, Brittney Segal, and Jessica Eibaum serve as executive producers.
