Sylvester Stallone Just Cast In New Series From Creator of Kevin Costner’s Yellowstone
The series marks Sylvester Stallone's first regular role in television during his 50-year career. He is best known for his work leading the Rocky, Rambo, and Expendables movie franchises.
Sylvester Stallone has been cast in a brand new mob drama for Paramount+ called Kansas City. The project brings together Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan and The Sopranos writer Terence Winter. Stallone will also executive produce the series with David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, and Bob Yari of 101 Studios. MTV Entertainment Studios is also producing the show.
According to Deadline, Sheridan and Winter will share writing and executive producing duties for Kansas City. Winter will also serve as series showrunner. The series marks Sylvester Stallone’s first regular role in television during his 50-year career. He is best known for his work leading the Rocky, Rambo, and Expendables movie franchises. However, this won’t be Sylvester Stallone’s first foray into television. The actor has previously guest-starred on several classic shows like Police Story and Kojak in the ’70s and more recently in the ever-popular family drama series This Is Us.
Set in the present day, Kansas City follows legendary New York City mobster Sal (Sylvester Stallone), who is faced with the startling task of reestablishing his Italian mafia family to the modernized, straight-shooting town of Kansas City, Missouri. There, Sal encounters surprising and unsuspecting characters who follow him along his unconventional path to power.
Speaking about the new project, CEO of 101 Studios, David C. Glasser said Taylor Sheridan is a prolific creator because of the multi-dimensional characters he creates and the complex worlds he builds. And Terence Winter is responsible for some of the most captivating, deeply respected television shows in history. Moreover, having the legendary, transcendent Sylvester Stallone in the show is truly a privilege. “We are thrilled that ViacomCBS has partnered with us to help tell this story,” he told Deadline.
While Kansas City finds its feet, Sylvester Stallone is working on The Expendables 4 which is currently in production. The film also stars Andy Garcia, 50 Cent, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, and Megan Fox. The returning cast members from previous films include Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, and Randy Couture.
Sylvester Stallone has also released the director’s cut of Rocky IV, titled Rocky vs. Drago. The film was released in theaters on November 11th and is currently available on-demand. According to Deadline, the action star added 40 minutes of never-before-seen footage to the 1985 film made during the U.S. Cold War with the Soviet Union. Sylvester Stallone wrote, directed, and starred in the film.
Interestingly, the action star recently celebrated the launch of his art exhibit at the Osthaus Museum in Hagen, Germany. The show is called Sylvester Stallone: The Magic of Being, and will be on display through February 2022. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about his paintings, he said it’s an amazing honor to have his work on display alongside some of the greatest artists in the world. The world of art and galleries is still very new to him. The actor said it’s a lot less stressful than the movie business. But thankfully for fans, he isn’t planning on quitting his day job any time soon.
