Channing Tatum Confirms Return For A Final Sequel In His Star-Studded Franchise
And not only is Channing Tatum returning to star as the lead protagonist, but director Steven Soderbergh, who directed the first film in 2012, is also making a comeback to helm the project.

It has been six years since Channing Tatum rocked the world with his performance as Michael “Magic Mike” Lane in Magic Mike XXL. While the success of the film did hint at another sequel, as the years went by without even the faintest whisper of the actor working on the next movie, fans had begun losing hope. But thankfully, creators of the “stripperverse” are not done telling the story of Mike as it has been reported that the titular character will be returning for a final sequel soon!
As per Deadline’s report, Warner Bros. has everything planned for the next installment, titled Magic Mike’s Last Dance, in the franchise. And not only is Channing Tatum returning to star as the lead protagonist, but director Steven Soderbergh, who directed the first film in 2012, is also making a comeback to helm the project. Gregory Jacobs, the director of 2015’s Magic Mike XXL, has also joined the project as one of the producers along with Reid Carolin, Nick Wechsler, and Peter Kiernan.
After penning the script for the first two films in the franchise, writer Reid Carolin has been brought on board as the screenwriter for the third film as well. As per the report, Magic Mike’s Last Dance will not be getting a theatrical release and will instead debut exclusively on HBO Max. Channing Tatum has also shared how excited he is to “blow the doors off of the world of Magic Mike” by reuniting with the very people who made the “stripperverse” successful in the first place. He also revealed the big news on his social platforms and posted a picture of the first page of the script for the film. Check out the post below:
The last time we saw Channing Tatum’s Michael “Magic Mike” Lane was in Magic Mike XXL, where he was struggling to stick to his furniture business after the big farewell to his days as a stripper at Xquisite Strip Club in Tampa. But when he is called back by his fellow strippers at the club who want to end their careers with one last successful performance, he joins them for a spectacular performance at the Myrtle Beach stripping convention. While this did seem to finally spell the end of Mike’s stripping career, he will be returning for his “last dance” in the recently announced sequel. For now, apart from Tatum, no new or returning cast member has been announced for the film.
While Magic Mike’s story came to a standstill of sorts after the second film’s commercial success, the franchise kept expanding and spawned a live stage show, Magic Mike Live, in 2017 as well as the upcoming HBO Max reality competition series, Finding Magic Mike. The live show has been tasting the same success as its cinematic origin and has expanded internationally from Las Vegas to London, Berlin, Australia, and is all ready for its first multi-year North American tour in 2022.
It was the success and the continued interest of fans in the Magic Mike franchise that led Soderbergh to make a final movie in the series to realize Mike Lane’s “dream of connecting people through dance.” As of now, no production schedule or a tentative release date for the Channing Tatum starrer has been announced.
