The Munsters movie reboot is officially on the way with Rob Zombie giving excited fans a look at the modern version of Mockingbird Lane. In a post shared on Instagram, the heavy metal singer-turned-director is pictured in front of the iconic street sign. The accompanying caption simply says, “Greetings from Mockingbird Lane.”

This isn’t the first time Rob Zombie shared photos from The Munsters movie set in Hungary. In October, he gave fans a first look at the classic sitcom remake, confirming that the cast will include Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman Munster, Sheri Moon Zombie (who also happens to be Rob’s wife) as Lily Munster, and Dan Roebuck as The Count. The image featured the actors sitting in front of the set, wearing their iconic costumes and makeup from the original television series. Rob Zombie added a fitting spooky season caption to the photo. He figured since Halloween was rapidly approaching he thought it was the perfect time for everyone to meet The Munsters.
Created in 1964 by Allan Burns and Chris Hayward, The Munsters comedy series was a satire of American suburban life, as well as traditional monster movies and the wholesome family fare of the era. The series starred Fred Gwynne as head of the family Herman Munster, Yvonne De Carlo as his vampire wife Lily, Al Lewis as Lily’s father who longs for the old days, Beverley Owen (later replaced by Pat Priest) as their attractive teenage niece Marilyn who’s still the ugly duckling of the family, and Butch Patrick as their werewolf-ish son Eddie.
Besides Rob Zombie’s latest offering, The Munsters has been adapted for film and television numerous times over the years. But none of them were as successful as the original which achieved higher Nielsen ratings than the similarly macabre-themed The Addams Family, which aired concurrently on ABC.
The original Munsters series ran for 70 episodes across two seasons between 1964 and 1966. A revival series, The Munsters Today, premiered in 1988 and ran for three seasons, while a darker re-imagining television special, Mockingbird Lane aired on NBC in 2012. Then in 2021, Rob Zombie was hired to write and direct a Munsters movie reboot, which will receive a theatrical release. It will also be available to stream on NBCUniversal’s Peacock.
Other than a few behind-the-scenes photos, details about Rob Zombie’s Munsters remake have been kept tightly under wraps. The filmmaker first announced that he would be working on the reboot in June, calling it a project he’s been chasing for 20 years. The following month, he teased some costume designs for the characters. This included pajamas for Lily and Herman.
Rob Zombie later shared that the 1313 Mockingbird Lane set and Mockingbird Heights neighborhood would be built from scratch as a replica of (and tribute to) the original 1960s sitcom. The design was finished in September. There is currently no official release date for The Munsters remake. However, the film has been tentatively scheduled for release in October 2022.
