Hawkeye is set to debut on Disney+ today, and the implications from the show could hold much deeper meanings for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hailee Steinfeld plays Kate Bishop in the upcoming series. Kate Bishop is the new protege of Clint Barton and takes on the mantle of a newer version of Hawkeye in the comics. Her introduction could lead to a hopeful appearance of the Young Avengers.
The executive producer of Hawkeye, Trin Tranh, was asked about the potentiality of having a Young Avengers team. She simply said, “we’ll see how it goes.” That small quote can be taken a number of ways, but it is likely a “wait and see” type of response. What are they waiting for? The feedback from fans for Hawkeye and Ms. Marvel. Should the MCU plan this route, there are plenty of young up-and-coming superheroes to help round out this team, and that could start with Hailee Steinfeld.
With Kate Bishop appearing, there are now a handful of younger heroes in the MCU that could theoretically join forces for another phase of Marvel films and TV shows. On top of Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), there are Tommy and Billy from Wandavision, who play Speed and Wiccan. Wanda and Vision’s sons. Elijah Bradley aka Patriot made his debut in The Falcon and Winter Soldier. He is the grandson of super-soldier Isiah Bradley. Kid Loki from Loki. Kid Loki is just another version of Loki from an alternate universe. Ms. Marvel is also set to have a show debut in 2022.
With plenty of the MCU’s original stars finally getting out of their contracts, there will need to be replacements to keep the dream of this massive Marvel Cinematic Universe going. What better way than to bring in the Young Avengers? Kat Bishop being the oldest of the bunch could be the leader of said group. Not that age is an indication of leading prowess, but older heroes tend to lead the pack. Look at Captain America. From early reviews of Hawkeye, Hailee Steinfeld seems to be the one shining throughout, so her being placed in a leading role in the future would make sense.
Some of the introductory members of the Young Avengers have included Hawkeye, Speed, Patriot, Wiccan, and Kid Loki. All aforementioned heroes have been introduced into the MCU already. There could be additions later on with Hulking, Marvel Boy, and Iron Lad. As deep as the MCU’s territory seems to be already, ther are sure to be planning to expand on their current plans with all these new shows set to hit Disney+ in the coming years. Hailee Steinfeld is just the first on the list to get a more substantial leading role.
Clint Barton is likely to pass down the mantle of Hawkeye to Kate Bishop in the new series. This is likely due to his more sinister side of becoming Ronin. Ronin was shown in Avengers: Endgame for a brief period and is a murderous figure in the comics. The new Hawkeye series is said to contain plenty of fallout from Barton’s decisions to become Ronin, and now Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) will likely take over going forward.
