Lizzy Caplan Is Bailing On The Revival Of Her Greatest TV Series
One of Lizzy Caplan's most beloved shows is getting a revival, but sadly she won't be there for it.

Lizzy Caplan has appeared in many beloved television series and films. The list includes hits like Hot Tub Time Machine, Mean Girls, Cloverfield, and The Interview. On top of the films listed Caplan has also graced shows like New Girl, Freaks and Geeks, and the highly revered Party Down which is now being revived on Starz. Unfortunately, Caplan won’t be there for the series’ return.
The revival series was announced today by Variety, who says that sadly, Lizzy Caplan will not be one of the stars returning. The actress has just landed a number of envious roles, creating scheduling conflicts with the Party Down revival. For example, just last week it was announced that Caplan had landed a prominent role for the Fatal Attraction adaptation that will premiere on Paramount Plus.
Lizzy Caplan will also be the star of Fleishman Is in Trouble for FX. The show is based on a New York Times bestselling novel by Taffy Brodesser-Akner. The limited series will premiere on FX on Hulu. Brodesser-Akner is serving as the writer for the series and is set to be an executive producer. Caplan is said to be playing the narrator, Libby, who is in the middle of a turbulent marriage ending between friends Toby and Rachel.
While Freaks and Geeks endures as one of Judd Apatow’s better projects, Lizzy Caplan arguably performed much better in Party Down. Party Down could even be considered the Freaks and Geeks of the 2010s. The majority of the stars from the original two seasons are set to return. Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, Ken Marino, Martin Starr, Ryan Hansen, and Megan Mullally have all signed on for the revival. The show could suffer without Lizzy Caplan.
Lizzy Caplan’s character of Casey Klein was well received by audiences as she was always the anti-authoritative character that constantly bothered the catering boss, Ron (Ken Marino). Caplan also paired well with Adam Scott, who is now seen as one of the perennial comedy actors in Hollywood. Making up for Caplan’s sarcastic tone won’t be an easy fix. The unresolved relationship between Casey (Caplan) and Harold (Scott) will likely leave fans disappointed.
Premiering in Starz in 2009, Party Down was a sitcom following the exploits of aspiring actors and writers working as caterers in Los Angeles while harboring dreams of fame and fortune. Unfortunately while the critics loved Party Down, ratings were low and the sitcom got the axe after only two seasons. For a while there were rumors swirling about a Party Down movie, but nothing on the big screen ever materialized.
Although Lizzy Caplan has all but shut down her involvement in the Party Down revival, maybe there could be some time for her to appear at least once in the new season of the long-awaited show’s return. A small cameo would help create some good faith between the creators and long-time fans. Should Caplan return once, we all might be saying, “Are we having fun yet?”
