Amber Heard Photo Proves She’s Ready To Fit Into Mera’s Aquaman 2 Costume
A new photo from Amber Heard proves she's ready for the role of Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom!
Amber Heard wants you to know she’s ready to once again inhabit the persona of Mera of Atlantis. Heard first played the hero in 2017’s Justice League and reprised the role for the following year’s Aquaman. Now she’s back for the highly anticipated sequel dropping next year, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. While we wait, Heard is treating her social media followers to a glimpse of her as the Atlantean queen.
Amber Heard posted the photo to her Instagram earlier today. While you don’t see her aquatic outfit, she wears the wig giving the illusion of Mera’s trademark red hair. Possibly on her way to shoot more scenes for the upcoming sequel, Heard captions the photo with “Red-dy!” You can see the image below.
We got another chance to see Amber Heard in action as Mera in the first teaser trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom which premiered during the online DC FanDome event. While the teaser reveals mostly behind the scenes concept art and unfinished shots, there is a shot of Heard throwing a punch as the Queen of Atlantis. Fans of the character were also treated to a pleasant surprise when Mera proved to be part of the same Knightmare sequence of Zack Snyder’s Justice League in which we finally get to see Ben Affleck’s Batman interact with Jared Leto’s Joker.
To a lot of fans, Amber Heard’s continued involvement in any DC movies — or in any movies at all — is a controversial subject. After the release of audio recordings in January 2020 which seemed to confirm that Heard physically abused Johnny Depp during their marriage, fans campaigned to get Heard removed as Mera but to no avail. In July, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom producer Peter Safran said there was never any consideration to respond to “pure fan pressure.” In the meantime Heard’s ex-husband has been pushed out of his role as the villain Grindewald in the Fantastic Beasts film series and his latest film, Minamata, is allegedly being withheld by MGM because of the controversy.
Amber Heard recently came under fire that had little to do with either her marriage to Johnny Depp or her role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. In September the actress posted pictures of herself lifting weights with one hand while holding her 6-month old daughter Ootang in the other. As reported by The Mirror, plenty of fans questioned the safety of Heard’s child. You can judge for yourself in the photos below.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is scheduled to release in theaters December 16, 2022. The returning cast includes Jason Momoa in the title role, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Dolph Lundgren, Temuera Morrison, and Randall Park. New faces to the franchise include Vincent Regan as King Atlan, Jani Zhao as Stingray, and Pilou Asbæk in an undisclosed role. James Wan is directing the sequel with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick returning to write the screenplay.
