Tim Burton’s Addams Family live-action series Wednesday for Netflix is shaping up as the cast slowly gets announced. Collider has reported that Luis Guzman (Narcos) will play Gomez Addams in Burton’s TV directing debut.
The announcement means this is the second spot to be filled for the Addams Family series. Earlier, it was reported that Jenna Ortega (The Babysitter: Killer Queen) would be Wednesday Addams. Currently, our trusted and proven sources tell us that Eva Green (Dumbo) is in talks to play the matriarch of the family, Morticia Addams.
The synopsis of the premise for the Addams Family show is that it will follow Wednesday as a student at Nevermore Academy. It will mix supernatural mystery and a coming-of-age story as she forms relationships at school, hones in on her psychic abilities, and solves mysteries. Death has plagued the town, and she tries to figure out what is behind the killings. She will also try to solve a mystery surrounding her family.
Seeing Gomez Addams, the father and husband of the Addams family will only be as a guest appearance, according to Variety. The show’s focus is set on the mysteries that Wednesday will be solving. We are unsure who will be a pinnacle part of the story outside of the titular character.
The Netflix Addams Family show has an order of eight episodes. It is created and written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, who will both act as executive producers. It is not the first time the two have partnered as they created Smallville and, more recently, Into the Badlands. Tim Burton will direct every episode while serving as an executive producer. Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman, Kevin Miserocchi, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman, Gail Berman. Mittman, Berman, and Miserocchi executive produced the 2019 animated movie that starred Oscar Isaac (Star Wars), Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), and Chloe Grace Moretz (Tom and Jerry) were some of the A-listers featured as the family members. They will be producing the sequel with newcomers Bill Hader (Barry) and Javon “Wanna” Walton (Euphoria).
The two announced stars for the Addams Family series had had mighty careers. Luis Guzman is a veteran actor who has been best-known for roles in Narcos, Traffic, Boogie Nights, The Taking of Pelham 123, and a handful of episodes of Shameless. Jenna Ortega might be young, but the actress has had major hits in recent years. She starred in season two of Netflix’s You and the streaming platform’s horror-comedy sequel The Babysitter: Killer Queen.
January 2022 will be Jenna Ortega’s biggest movie appearance as she will be in Scream, the fifth entry of the franchise that will see big named newcomers to the slasher franchise like Jack Quaid (The Boys), Melissa Barrera (In the Heights), Dylan Minnette (13 Reasons Why), and Mikey Madison (Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood). It will see returning cast members Neve Campbell (Scream, 2, 3, 4), Courtney Cox (Friends, Scream, 2, 3, 4), David Arquette (Scream, 2, 3, 4), and Marley Shelton (Planet Terror, Scream 4).
Netflix’s Addams Family has no current release window or other casting announcements.
