Nicolas Cage’s New Movie Is One Of His Best Reviewed Ever

Nicolas Cage has come upon iconic roles that are beloved by fans and critics over the years. He’s also played parts that have lived on despite failure with cult followings. To name his best-reviewed movie might be difficult as he has done so much in his career. You have weird action sci-fi movies like Face/Off, Academy Award winners like Leaving Las Vegas, and indie hits like Mandy. The competition is tough, but it turns out his latest movie, Pig, has received the most positive reviews out of all of his credited live-action work.
On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 97 percent rating with 159 reviews. Most of them applaud Nicolas Cage himself, who critics praised for his performance. Some of the highest notable scores consisted of a four out of four by MovieFreak.com, a three out of four by the Boston Globe, an A from A.V. Club, and a four out of four from the Washington Post. The audience score was a little lower with an 84 percent, but still, those user-submitted reviews gave the actor credit for an outstanding performance that makes up for any flaws with the film, like its pacing and strangeness that might be off-putting for some viewers. His only other role that rivals these rave reviews is the animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, where he is featured in a supporting role as Noir Spider-Man.
The concept for Pig almost seemed like it would have been John Wick, but instead of Keanu Reeves, it starred Nicolas Cage. Instead, if you were to watch the trailer, it takes a darker, more personal turn. A truffle farmer is beaten, and his precious pig is captured. He searches Portland to find the person who pignapped his best friend. It showed the Raising Arizona actor giving a less bombastic performance, like some of his other notable roles, and he delivered something reserved, thoughtful, and emotional. It captured people along with the film’s profound writing and style.
The film features other A-listers who accompany Nicolas Cage. Alex Wolff (Old) and Adam Arkin (Sons of Anarchy) are some of the biggest names outside of the leading actor. The supporting cast includes some who are less experienced, like Cassandra Violet, Julia Bray, and Elijah Ungvary. The drama is directed by Michael Sarnoski, marking this as his first feature-length as he has previously helmed shorts and the episodes of the TV show Olympia. Writing with Sarnoski is Vanessa Block, making this her writing debut.

Financially, it is harder to tell how well the Nicolas Cage movie is performing. It currently has grossed $2.6 million globally, but without a disclosed budget, it is hard to get an idea if it made up for production and marketing costs.
