If the amazingly stellar cast that director Adam McKay has put together for his upcoming Netflix comedy film, Don’t Look Up, hasn’t been enough to get you all excited about its release, then we have the next best thing in line- the first teaser trailer of the film offering us our first peek at Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Jonah Hill, and Meryl Streep.
Don’t Look Up will see Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio as two low-level astronomers Kate Dibiasky and Dr. Randall Mindy making the biggest discovery of their life- a massive asteroid hurtling towards Earth and having the potential to wipe out all life on the planet. To ensure that the right forces join hands to avert the imminent destruction, the two embark on a giant media tour across the country which involves appearing on talk shows and handling discussions with douchy politicians. Get your first look in the trailer below.
We get a peek at the latter in the recently leaked teaser of the Netflix film on Twitter. In the clip, Leonardo DiCaprio’s Randall is seen trying to breathe through a nasty panic attack. He is in the washroom as he gets ready to meet up with the President of the United States of America (Meryl Streep) and her son, Jason Orlean (Jonah Hill) in the Oval Office with Lawrence’s Kate. While the two astronomers try to make the politicians realize the gravity of the situation and warn them that a humanity-erasing asteroid is heading for them, all Hill’s character can focus on is that Randall’s “breathing is stressing me out, dude.” And given the comedic flair that the remaining cast has exhibited in their career, we can expect more such hilarious moments in the film.
A few months ago, Adam McKay revealed that when he set out to bring together his dream cast for the Netflix comedy, while he landed Jennifer Lawrence quickly, he wasn’t exactly hopeful about having the same luck with Leonardo DiCaprio. His main concern was the fact that the actor has worked with renowned directors like Martin Scorcese, with whom he has done six critically and commercially acclaimed films. McKay was apprehensive about whether DiCaprio would be willing to work with him. But the Shutter Island actor was quick to get on board after reading the script and according to the director, he is “fabulous” and “really funny” in the film.
The star-studded cast for the Netflix film includes Jennifer Lawrence as Kate Dibiasky, Cate Blanchett as Brie Evantee, Rob Morgan as Dr. Clayton “Teddy” Oglethorpe, Leonardo DiCaprio as Dr. Randall Mindy, Meryl Streep as President Janie Orlean, Jonah Hill as Jason Orlean, Chris Evans as Peter Isherwell, Paul Guilfoyle as General Themes, Scott Mescudi as DJ Chello, Matthew Perry as Dan Pawketty, Tomer Sisley as Adul Grelio, Tyler Perry as Jack Bremmer, Melanie Lynskey as June, Ron Perlman as Colonel Ben Drask, Timothée Chalamet as Quentin, Ariana Grande as Riley Bina, and Himesh Patel as Phillip. Gina Gershon, Mark Rylance, and Michael Chiklis have been cast in undisclosed roles. While no exact date for the film’s release has been shared, McKay has assured audiences that Don’t Look Up is set to debut on Netflix sometime in November or December 2021.
