Dwayne Johnson Says Jungle Cruise 2 Is Happening
Well it did not take long, but Dwayne Johnson came out and said there are already plans in the works for a Jungle Cruise 2 soon

Sequels sometimes get announced in official ways like at events like Comic-Con or in press releases, or by a surprising trailer blindsiding audiences. Sometimes, those sequels get announced in the most casual of ways. This time it is the latter with Dwayne Johnson (Jumanji: The Next Level) tweeting out that Jungle Cruise 2 is happening.
Yesterday (July 31), Dwayne Johnson quote-tweeted a response thanking sportscaster Dale Arnold for his compliments on the movie. While thanking him, the star casually responds to Arnold’s final comment about how “there has to be” a Jungle Cruise 2. He said that a meeting for the next movie is happening next week.
Disney has not given the green light as of writing, but Dwayne Johnson does not seem like he is bluffing about doing more movies in this universe based on the Disneyland amusement park ride. Producer Beau Flynn told Slashfilm that while the movie’s story ties up by the end, there are seeds planted to do more to tell new stories with these characters. His main point was driven by the film’s reception and the corporate overlords letting them do it. Hollywood has let movies set up sequels without knowing if the audience is for it, so now that the film is receiving decent to better reviews, it might open the door.
The reception was an obstacle that Dwayne Johnson and the rest of the cast and crew have overcome; now, it is about making money to earn a Jungle Cruise 2. Its domestic opening raked in $61.8 million, beating out its expected $34.2 million. It currently holds $91.8 million in its global box office, which includes approximately $30 million from Disney Plus Premier Access. The movie has about $200 million for its budget, plus the marketing costs; it has a long way to go to make money. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Delta variant that is spreading, the industry is still taking hits that make it hard to turn a profit. Under these circumstances, it is hard to know what Disney’s meter is for green-lighting sequels for blockbusters that cannot make enough cash.
Sequel or not, Dwayne Johnson has a busy schedule to fit anything in. This November, he will star in Red Notice with Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman 1984). He just wrapped filming on his DC standalone movie Black Adam, which coincidentally enough was directed by Jungle Cruise director Jaume Collet-Serra. Continuing with DC, the actor will lend his voice to DC League of Super-Pets with Keanu Reeves (John Wick), John Krasinski (A Quiet Place Part II), Kevin Hart (Die Hart), and Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live). The former wrestlers’ other upcoming projects include The King, San Andreas 2, Doc Savage, and Big Trouble in Little China. Johnson is as busy as they come.
Jungle Cruise is out in theaters and Disney Plus. The movie is directed by Collet-Serra with writers Michael Green (Blade Runner 2049), Glenn Ficarra (Bad Santa), and John Requa (Bad Santa). It stars Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt (A Quiet Place Part II), Edgar Ramirez (The Undoing), Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad), Paul Giamatti (Straight Outta Compton).
