Prepare yourself; we have yet another rumor about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We Got This Covered is reporting that Tom Hiddleston (Loki) and Sophia Di Martino (Flowers) are being eyed for the New Avengers.

Speculation has kicked into high gear since the ending of Endgame as to what the next era of the franchise will look like. Now that the Infinity Saga has concluded, there are rumors about the next saga being an adaption of Secret Wars. Since that will require the Avengers and whatever other teams that can be utilized, it has brought this latest rumor about Tom Hiddleston going to a heroic role.

Outside of some sprinkled hints, there is not a lot to hold up water on Secret Wars being the focal point of the juggernaut franchise for Marvel Studios. The only idea that does work is Tom Hiddleston as Loki being a hero as his arc went closer to the light side than the dark in his Disney Plus series. Being in a team of heroes? Well, we will have to wait and see for that one as the character has proven to like stabbing people in the back at least 50 times, according to the Time Variance Authority’s files.

Well, if Tom Hiddleston and the rest of his Marvel co-stars are going to be in Secret Wars, what is it? The comic run ran for 12 issues between 1984 and 85. It was written by Jim Shooter and illustrated by Mike Zeck and Bob Layton. It follows a character named the Beyonder, who teleports a variety of heroes and villains to battle to the death on a planet cleverly called Battleworld. It features the Avengers (Captain America, Captain Marvel, Hawkeye, Iron Man, She-Hulk, Thor, the Wasp, and the Hulk), three of the four members of the Fantastic Four (Human Torch, the Thing, Mister Fantastic), Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, X-Men (Colossus, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Professor X, Rogue, Storm, Wolverine, and Lockheed the Dragon), Doctor Doom, Magneto, and plenty of other iconic characters from Marvel Comics.

For Secret Wars, Marvel will undoubtedly twist it somehow to be something new. Like changing Thanos’ motivations from the comics when bringing him to life on the big screen, if we get this new story for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, then expect it to be quite different. One of the current theories floating on the Internet is that due to the focus on the multiverse across Avengers: Endgame, the Loki series with Tom Hiddleston, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it could be a way to introduce the iconic comic book series into the fold. That said, it is just a theory, so let’s not hold onto it too tightly.

Another question raised for non-comic book readers, who are the New Avengers that Tom Hiddleston is supposedly joining? The comic of the same name was started in 2004 by writer Brian Michael Bendis and illustrator David Finch. With the Avengers broken up, old members gather newcomers to start their own squad of superheroes. The group consists of Captain America, Iron Man, Luke Cage, The Sentry, Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, and Wolverine.
