Chris Pratt’s upcoming return to TV has cast yet another star in Suicide Squad and Terminator: Genisys actor Jai Courtney. Variety reports that Jai Courtney will play the character Steve Horn opposite Chris Pratt’s James Reece in the TV adaptation of The Terminal List, based on Jack Carr’s bestselling novel of the same name. The plot focuses on Reece’s return home after his entire platoon of Navy SEALs is ambushed during a highly dangerous covert mission. Although he’s the sole survivor, he’s got conflicting memories about what happened, leading him to question whether he’s the good guy or the bad guy in his own story. As he unravels the plot, nefarious forces begin to emerge, putting both him and his family in danger.
Jai Courtney’s character Steve Horn is described as the kingpin behind the billion-dollar Capstone Industries global fun. While the company is described as having its hand in a bit of everything from pharmaceuticals to fashion, Horn’s real money-making venture is in military trends and innovations — private or otherwise. He’s expected to be a bit of an antagonist to Chris Pratt’s character and a powerful one at that thanks to his many resources.
The Terminal List will mark Chris Pratt’s return to TV following the conclusion of Parks and Recreation in 2015. However, it’s right within the wheelhouse he’s carved out for himself since. When he’s not jet-setting across the galaxy as Starlord in the Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers franchises, Pratt tends to gravitate toward military-based dramas and action thrillers.
Deadline previously reported that The Terminal List intends to bring on real-life veterans and their families in various forms for the series’ production to make sure they’re accurately capturing what they have to go through after returning home and trying to assimilate back into civilian life. Chris Pratt will executive produce the show under his Indivisible Pictures banner along with Jon Schumacher. Antoine Fuqua will direct and executive produce as well.
Prior to sharing the screen with Chris Pratt, Jai Courtney can next be seen in James Gunn’s Suicide Squad. Courtney’s inclusion in the cast is no small compliment. The director recently told Collider that Warner Bros. politely requested he cast Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn in his follow-up to David Ayer’s 2016 Suicide Squad. However, rather than simply abandon all but one character, Courtney’s Captain Boomerang was allowed to return alongside Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller. However, everyone else from the critically panned and fan-maligned 2016 film was left on the cutting room floor in favor of new characters.
As fans eagerly anticipate what Gunn will do with the actor’s Captain Boomerang in his second outing as one of the few DC Comics supervillains that fans didn’t mind from the first movie, there’s plenty more of the actor currently available. Fans of Jai Courtney and Chris Pratt can currently view the two stars at their new home on Amazon Prime Video, where Pratt’s The Tomorrow War had a record-breaking debut for the platform, prompting early talks of a sequel. Meanwhile, Courtney can be seen in the Kate Beckinsale-led action film Jolt, which is currently streaming on the platform.
