The trailer for the second season of Stargirl is here. The peek at what’s to come shows growth for the characters and new enemies, like the leading character fighting a new Green Lantern.
Being a superhero always requires the balance of life and crime-fighting. The Stargirl footage reinforces this idea for the young hero as Brec Bassinger’s (47 Meters Down: Uncaged) Courtney Whitmore tries to figure out how she can be another teenager while beating up bad guys. Meanwhile, she is a part of a team, the Justice Society of America, which is finding trouble with its purpose as the city seems safe and not in need of a superhero group to protect it.

We got to see quite a few of the villains who will cause plenty of trouble in the new season of Stargirl. Jonathan Cake (The Affair) will have a proper introduction as the supervillain Shade, who appeared briefly in the finale of the first season as his team Injustice Society were defeated. Meanwhile, Meg DeLacy (The Fosters) as Cindy Burman/Shiv will place herself further as a secondary antagonist out for vengeance against the young heroes. Nick E. Tarabay (Star Trek Into Darkness) was absent in the trailer, but he is set to be the evil Eclipso.
The biggest news in the trailer for the Arrowverse show is that fans are getting a Green Lantern in the form of his daughter Jade (played by Red Ruby‘s Ysa Penaejo). Seeing her in the trailer for Stargirl makes sense as the first season planted seeds for the character. Having the power battery and the missing ring, it was bound to happen for the second outing for the CW series.
The Stargirl footage gives another tease of Thunderbolt, just like from the previous trailer in June that hinted at the character. Presumably, Alkoya Brunson’s (NCIS: New Orleans) Jakeem Williams will turn into a member of the JSA once in contact with the genie and gaining his powers.
Starring with the already mentioned actors, Stargirl features Yvette Monreal (Rambo: Last Blood) as Yolanda Montez/Wildcat, Anjelika Washington (Girl’s Room) as Beth Chapel/Dr. Mid-Nite, Trae Romano (Robbie) as Mike Dugan, Luke Wilson (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Pat Dugan/S.T.R.I.P.E., and Amy Smart (Justified) as Barbara Whitmore.
Stargirl is created by Geoff Johns, who has written both DC movies and shows like Arrow, The Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman 1984, and Titans. Co-creator Greg Berlanti made his name directing Love, Simon, but has produced plenty of superhero shows like The Flash, Arrow, and Doom Patrol. Johns acts as the lead writer with Lee Moder (Justice League Action) and Taylor Streitz (NCIS: New Orleans).
Earlier this year, we reported that Stargirl is getting a standalone movie from our trusted and proven sources. It is unclear if she would continue her connection with the Arrowverse or with her big-screen debut would connect to the DC Extended Universe. With the show’s positive reviews and inevitably expanding its cast to have more variety, it is possible for it to happen one of these days between seasons of the CW series. The next season of Stargirl premieres on The CW on Tuesday, August 10.
