A Dwayne Johnson Comedy Is Climbing The Charts On Streaming
One of the funniest Dwayne Johnson movies is finding love on Netflix.

Dwayne Johnson continues to be money in the bank. His films are constant blockbusters at cineplexes across the globe and now they are finding massive viewings on streaming services as well. One of Johnson’s films, a sequel no less, is climbing the Hulu charts, sitting at #5 on the popular streamer.
Jumanji: The Next Level is the 2019 Dwayne Johnson sequel to the popular 2017 box office blockbuster, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. This time, Johnson returns with the familiar cast of Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black as well as Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, Nick Jonas, and Rhys Darby. All returning players are joined by newcomers Danny Glover, Danny DeVito, and Awkwafina.
When we first see our returning players, Spencer (Wolff), Fridge (Blain), Martha (Turner), and Bethany (Iseman) have gone their separate ways to college. The plan, though, is to meet up again during Christmas break. Fridge, Martha, and Bethany do, but Spencer is conspicuously absent. Fearing the worst, the threesome head to Spencer’s mom’s house.
When they arrive, they are greeted by Spencer’s grandfather Eddie (DeVito) and Eddie’s former friend Milo (Glover). They soon realize their fear to be correct; Spencer has gone back into Jumanji. They decide to also go back into the game to rescue their friend and as they do, the game instead takes Fridge and Martha along with Eddie and Milo. Bethany is left behind.
Inside the game, we see the same characters, though they are now represented by different people. Fridge becomes Professor Sheldon Oberon (Jack Black, which had been Bethany previously), Eddie and Milo become Dr. Smolder Bravestone (Johnson), and Franklin “Mouse” Finbar (Hart) which were Spencer and Fridge previously. Martha is the only one who maintains her previous character, Ruby Roundhouse (Gillan).
As they try to understand their character changes and Eddie and Milo joining in, the quartet is met by another familiar face, Nigel Billingsley (Darby), who lays out the rules for this version of the game. Jumanji is suffering from a massive drought that is slowly destroying the world. For the players to leave the game, they need to track down a magical necklace called the Falcon Heart which has been stolen by the evil warlord Jurgen. Outside the game, Bethany is in search of Alex Vreeke (Colin Hanks from the first movie) to help her find her friends.
Back inside the game, the four begin to hunt down Jurgen and the Falcon Heart. Their travels take them on numerous and dangerous adventures where they deal with wild ostriches and a menacing group of mandrills. After the monkey fight, the four reunite with Alex and Bethany, who arrive as Seaplane McDonough (Jonas) and Cyclone the horse. Next up, the battle for the Falcon Heart.
Jumani: The Next Level was a massive box office hit for Dwayne Johnson. The sequel was directed by Jake Kasdan, who also directed the first. Kasdan co-wrote the script along with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. It cost $125 million to make but brought home over $800 million at the box office.
For Dwayne Johnson, he has been nothing short of a monster at the box office. The former WWE Superstar consistently finds himself at the top of the heap in terms of box office gross with his worldwide tally totaling over $10.5 billion.
Along with the Jumanji franchise, Dwayne Johnson has also been a part of another big one, the Fast & Furious franchise. The popularity of that allowed Johnson to star in the spin-off film, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.
Dwayne Johnson has also brought rear-ends to the seats on non-franchise movies such as San Andreas, Central Intelligence, Rampage, and Skyscraper. But Johnson’s talents aren’t only showcased on the big screen or WWE arenas, Johnson has also been very successful on the small screen.
With Ballers, Dwayne Johnson not only starred in the HBO series, but he also produced it. The series ran for five seasons. Johnson also recently starred in the NBC sitcom, Young Rock, a show that told Johnson’s story at three different times of his life; as a young child, a high schooler, and when he played football in college. Young Rock was recently renewed for a second season.
Dwayne Johnson is not only one of the world’s biggest box office draws, but he is also one of the busiest actors in Hollywood. Up next are two films that have been completed for some time but are just getting their release. Disney’s Jungle Cruise will premiere on July 30, 2021, while Red Notice will make its Netflix debut on November 12, 2021.
Up next is Dwayne Johnson’s pet project, DC’s Black Adam, a movie he’s been trying to get to the big screen for a number of years. Also on Johnson’s busy schedule is The King, the sequel San Andreas 2, and two more exciting projects, Doc Savage and the remake of John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China.
