The CW ordered the reboot of Legends of the Hidden Temple, an American action-adventure TV game show that broadcast on Nickelodeon from 1993 to 1995. That means we’ll get to see Olmec, a fan-favorite character of the show, which is basically a giant stone head voiced by Dee Bradley Baker. In the latest news, Mr. Baker will return as Olmec’s voice for The CW reboot of the series.
Dee Bradley Baker will make his return to Legends of the Hidden Temple, according to Deadline, more than 20 years since the original series’ first run. Baker is set to reprise his role as the fan-favorite Olmec, a giant talking Mayan head that served as the series’ most recognizable symbol. The head made announcements, explained various challenges, and asked tiebreaker questions in the original series. When asked about the reprisal of his iconic role, Dee Bradley Baker said only “Let’s Rock,” signaling the return of the giant talking head and the return of the series.
The reimagining of Legends of the Hidden Temple is based on the original show of the same name, which ran on Nickelodeon for three seasons between 1993 and 1995. The show’s concept is likely to remain the same: several teams consisting of two children, one girl, and one boy, compete to retrieve one of the historical artifacts in the temple by performing various physical stunts and answering questions based on mythology, history, and geography. If you thought it sounds like an Indiana Jones movie or one of the reported video games, you’re quite right – the set of Legends of the Hidden Temple was based on Indiana Jones movies.
The new Legends of the Hidden Temple series is set to debut on October 10, at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW. It will retain many of its original elements like Moat Crossings, The Steps of Knowledge, the Temple Run, and iconic team names like Orange Iguanas, Blue Barracudas, and Red Jaguars. However, unlike the original show, which had six teams, the reimagining will only feature four teams competing for the hidden treasure under Dee Bradley Baker’s Olmec guidance. The new show will be hosted by Cristela Alonzo, an American comedian, actor, writer, and producer credited with ABC’s Cristela – which made her the first Latina woman to create, produce, write and star in a US primetime comedy.
Dee Bradley Baker, the original voice behind Olmec, is a known American actor credited with some of the best-known titles in the animated television industry, including Avatar: The Last Airbender, American Dad!, SpongeBob SquarePants, Ben 10, and many more. He’s also credited in Halo and Gears of War video games, and several other gaming titles, while also appearing in various Star Wars television series. His reappearance in the rebooted Legends of the Hidden Temple will likely bring back memories to the now-adult 90’s youths. In the end, it would seem that The CW is looking to invest in new titles now that they’re considering ending The Flash.
